Bitdefender Free Prevents Pc From Starting Up
Windows 8, 64-bit and BitDefender Free don't like each other.
Install BD, update, it all works beautifully UNTIL I restart the laptop and then it just hangs, nothing. nada. zilch.
I then have to rename the BD folder, restart the machine and uninstall BD.

Yes windows 8 compatibility is mentioned on the product information and download page on the bitdefender main site for the free version. Also see the pinned topic at the top of the free version forum section
Not sure why it would prevent W8 from starting up as I don't use the free version. I tried it to see what it was like on Windows XP briefly yesterday before wiping that machine of XP for good now and installing Linux Mint over the entire HDD.
Hopefully someone from Technical Support or a knowledgeable forum member may be able to help you resolve this.0 -
I have the same issue. Windows boot seems to have happen ok, then before the log in screen, just stays on a black screen, seemingly forever.

There can be a number of reasons for this. I will list only a few
1. There still may be files of another third party AV on your computer. If this is causing the problem it will also happen with W7. If you did have another 3rd party AV program on the computer search the web for its uninstall app made by the AV software company whose AV app you previously had on your computer. Download it and run it. It will clean all remnants of the AV program left over using the Windows program uninstall feature or third party uninstaller that you may have used.
2. You could have a virus. To test this you could restart in Safe Mode with Networking enabled and run McAfee Stinger or an online scanning AV program. You would have to research which ones run in Safe Mode. You could also use a program like Old Timer but using that requires advanced virus and AV knowledge or more succinctly being an AV & malware removal expert.
3. BD AV Free may have found virus on restart. This could possible initiate a full system drive scan of your computer locking it in the meantime. This last one can be checked by restarting your computer and waiting an hour or so to see if it moves to the Windows login area.
I am not saying that any of the above three are causing your problem though they could cause the problem you are having.0
