I have just installed Bitdefender Internet Security 2014 on a newly restored-to-factory and updated XP laptop and it seemed to install properly. The gadget was displayed and updates failed because it was still offline. When I rebooted, however; XP would not start, hanging with the Windows logo showing and the progression bar moving in short spurts. I then restored to last working configuration from the reboot options. This time, XP started but the Bitdefender widget never displayed. Hovering over the "B" logo displayed "Bitdefender services are loading now, please wait". After several minutes I became impatient and tried running Bitdefender from the start menu. The "B" logo turned dark and the window displayed the message "Bitdefender services are not responding." When I checked using Windows Task Manager the vsserv.exe process is not running.
I have had several Bitdefender issues lately with different computers running different operating systems. The biggest is that I cannot access download.bitdefender.com in a timely manner, that is, after several minutes the page is rendered as a style-less list of links and bitdefender updates do not download. The hoops that I have been jumping through for weeks have led to this situation because eventually I killed the operating system and had to start over. Can anyone help me get this thing off the ground again?
