Scan Has Stopped Working
Hi Guys
Although my BitDefender Total Security 2008 is working perfectly after only 48 hrs of use following installation all the manual scan options (single file/full scan/deep scan/my documents scan e.t.c) have stopped working and just totally freeze/lock my computer immediately you click the relevant scan button forcing a crash restart. I have had this same problem before with previous versions of BitDefender Internet Security 10 and think that there is a bug in the program or there is a confliction with some other software on my computer(OS Windows XP SP2) I have done a complete uninstall and reinstall twice (using Bitdefender Uninstall Tool) but to-date I have been unable to correct it. Many other people seem to be having the same problem when you look at various forums.
I must stress that every other function works perfectly and BitDefender Total Security 2008 including auto updates and it still detects viruses/trojans ok via the Real Time Protection so I don't intend to remove the program as I think it's the best in it's field. However I would be most grateful for any comments/suggestions regarding the manual scan error.
Regards to all BitDefender users

Hello Barringtonw2,
Do you have any other security applications installed? (which?)
And what applications do you usually use in realtime? (applications set to start with Windows, and which run in background)
When you say "48 hours", what exactly you you mean? The scans just stop working when you start your computer, 2 days after installation?
Cris.
P.S.: Could you post some links to where this problem is discussed?0 -

Hi Chris
Sorry for my late reply
Firstly my manual scan (scan on demand) has suddenly started working again perfectly in all areas????????........Don't ask me how???
The "uniscan.exe " file is opening and closing correctly as it should.
I have experienced this before when the scan on demand suddenly starts to work again, but unfortunately in the past it has just as suddenly stopped working after a couple of days. Again I stress that every other function of my BitDefender Total Security 2008 perfoms perfectly.
I have not changed any of my settings in my OS (XP SP2) or added/removed any other programs
The only thing I've done which could possibly have a bearing on the situation is to run Chkdsk and defrag my two drives C & D (Please note I use O&O Defrag from OO Software and have been told that a possible confliction exists with BitDefender software??)
Although I'm happy that the scan on demand is now working I still feel that it would be benificial to answer your questions as my experience tells me that the situation is likely to return??
1. I do not have any other security applications installed
2. What is the best way to find out (applications set to start with Windows, and which run in background)????? Sorry not sure how to check.
3. The scan stopped working 48 hours after installation, but I had been using most of the functions (including the scan on demand) frequently up to that time.

I would be grateful for your continued help
