  • Open the services window (Start->Run, type services.msc at the Open prompt). Here you should see the "BitDefender update" service. Right click on it and select start. Open the BD console once again. Is the module available now?

  • Hello,

I had the same problem you and I have resolved with the help of Support Bitdefender through mail.

Here's what they told me to do:

Can remove the Bitdenfeder using this tool: http://www.bitdefender.com/uninstall

After installing the product again replace the secondary server update by entering this address: upgrade1.bitdefender.com instead of upgrade.bitdefender.com

To change this parameter move into advanced program, click the update button and then click Settings.

Ever since I changed the parameter I have not had any problem. ;)

It worked for me too. I used the Live Assistance twice, emailed information once and I got my answer from here instead. Thank you very much for your help! <img class=" />

Same problem here mate,..read through the bottom of the post for (probable) solution.

Not working, windows reporting the module or file cannot be found (something like that)

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Probable solution:

Cause : A new malware or trojan affecting / attacking bitdefender. (maybe)

Before i babbling too much here, here's the post you likely to read :

http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=11366 (link to my virus submission post)

http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=11232 (link to similar trojan submission post).

The trojan will be added to detection list, so updating bitdefender will solve your problem.

    @Coconesian

You probably say,.but that's my exact problem,..i cannot update bitdefender whatsoever.

    Keep reading mate...

I have similar problem as yours,..the update service is UNAVAILABLE, and the tab is all grayed out, right ?

At first i thought this is a bug in bitdefender, so i perform clean uninstall/install routine, but the problem seems too pop up again (i'm using Bitdefender Internet Security 2009). So, i install BDIS 2008,..the problem shows up again.

So my guess is this is got nothing to do with bug.

I install avast and malwarebytes, update both of them, and perform a full scan .

Voila ! Avast detecting a malware in every root in the local drive(i submitted them to this forum in here), and malwarebytes is detecting some malware in windows system 32 folder.

I deleted both malware,..reboot, and then perform clean uninstall/install Bitdefender routine..and my bitdefender is now working normal.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now for the background story :

The funny thing is, Bitdefender actually can detect this malware, but strangely enough,.it only detecting it IF Avast is detecting it.

For instance, i did perform deep system scan, but bitdefender not detecting anything.

But if i scan using avast, bitdefender SUDDENLY ABLE to detect that malware.

I got an explanation from Bitdefender Virus researcher that heuristic engine is able to detect that malware, and they will add to the detection list shortly, read the quotes below :

The name of the archive is a little bit confusing, because it contains 2 keyloggers. Basically, they both do the same: drop an executable and a library in system32, and load that library under as many processes as they can (the library does the actual keylogging, the executable is just an "injector" that injects the library when ran). They currently detected by the heuristic engine. However, we will soon add detection for them.

    Best regards!

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I notice that THE FIRST TIME bitdefender detecting the malware, and make an attempt to quarantine / delete the malware, that's the point when the Update Service become UNAVAILABLE(Permanently, it doesn't matter if you reboot computer, or repair bitdefender installation).

So,..maybe this is a solution for you,.or maybe is not...

    Cheers

Thanks, fellows, for those responses. My update doesn't work at all. It will not do anything when I click on "Fix" or :"Fix these issues". When I go into "Settings" for update, the screen is greyed out, and unresponsive to anything besides clicking on another tab. I'll give the Safe Mode thing a try, while I'm waiting for a "48 hour" response from our good friends at BitDefender Technical Support.

It's about a bug in bitdefender,..currently in development.

But makes me wonder,..how come we update if the update tab is grayed out (unavailable)

  • i have the same error as you on BD total security 2009 . i have windows xp SP 3 i hope someone finds us a fix i cant risk my computer without update <img class=" />
