Bitdefender Antivirus 2008 And Yahoo Mail

When the Protection Level of BitDefender Antivirus 2008 is set to "Aggressive", there will be problem downloading large attachments (> 1MB) from Yahoo Mail. The downloading will complete very early and prematurely but the size of the downloaded file is only less than 500KB even though the original file size is > 1MB. Hence the downloaded file will be corrupted and unusable.

To solve this, when downloading large attachments from Yahoo Mail, set the Protection Level to "Default", and the download will complete smoothly.

The only difference between the "Aggressive" and "Default" level is "Aggressive" will scan web (HTTP) traffic while "Default" will not. Maybe the "Aggresive" level is way too aggressive to terminate a download like that This is certainly a bug! But strangely, it only affects Yahoo Mail and not Hotmail. Neither does it affect any other web downloads. What is it with Yahoo Mail and BitDefender? Anyone can offer any explanation?

How big are the attachments that you wanted to download? There is is size limit for free yahoo mail take a look here. Are you using a download manager/accelerator? I was able to download an attachment that was > 1 mb and it downloaded completely. http-traffic scan is also enabled if you set it on default level.

I just downloaded a 8MB archive from an Yahoo mail. It downloaded completely, without any errors (I checked the archive and it's fully functional).

I tested it with Firefox 2.0.0.13, and I have BD Total Security (HTTP scan enabled)

What browser I you using? And because you have BD Antivirus, I assume you have a 3rd party firewall (which one?).

As Niels asked, are you using any download managers/accelerators (which ones)?

The attachment I am downloading is only about 3MB. I turned off my firewall (Comodo Pro). And I am not using any accelerator or download manager. No other anti-spyware either.

The strange thing is, this only happens when my Protection Level is set to "Aggressive". When I set it to "Default", everything works perfectly. Furthermore, to add strangeness to an already strange issue, this problem only manifest itself with Yahoo Mail and not with Hotmail. All these started only recently. Don't know if it's because Yahoo did something to their transport that tripped BD, or if BD updated its engine to something that causes it to respond like this with Yahoo Mail at "Aggressive" level.

Anyway, since I have a workaround, I am not overly concerned. Still love BD best
