Stealth Mode Conflicting With Home Network

Hello -

I've just installed Total Security 2008 on our two home computers.

- The two PCs are networked through a router.

- One PC has all peripherals (printers, external hard drive, etc) attached directly to it.

- The other PC uses those peripherals via the network (wireless connection through the router).

The network is set as Trusted on both PCs. The individual computers are also identified as Trusted by one another.

If I turn the Stealth mode off on both PCs, then the 2nd PC can access all shared elements of the network. And under the Firewall>Activity tab, if I click on the network software then a sub-category called "Connections" shows up with the 2nd PC listed.

But if I turn the Stealth mode back on for either computer, the 2nd PC loses all access; all shared items appear as "offline"; the "Connections" sub-category disappears from the list under the network software on the Firewall>Activity tab. I’ve noticed that the Firewall histories on both PCs show denial of port scans by the other PC. I assume this is where problem lies.

How can I get the network running without leaving the Stealth mode off? With past firewall programs, I've simply had to set allowances for the networking software. But with BD I’ve changed all the settings I can find and still haven't figured it out.

Dear norwood,

At this moment you can't configure stealth mode you can always post your suggestion to add that in the future in this forum section. So as you just find out that at this moment stealth mode denies all access even if you have put the other network pc's in your trusted zone.

So networks of this kind are impossible with Stealth mode on? If so, how crucial is Stealth mode to the security provided by the BD firewall?

P.S. The 2008 versions of TS2008 and IS2008 are advertised with: "Alerts you to unauthorized access to your Wi-Fi network by notifying you when computers log in to the network."

Does this "networking" NOT include sharing of devices, drives, printers, etc? The right exceptions were simple to set up with my previous firewall program.

Dear norwood,

This is only a user forum. . Go to the advanced tab once you are in the BitDefender firewall section check enable wi-fi notifications and press on ok. So you will get notified. If you run it without stealth mode printer sharing,... will work if you have created trusted zones for it in the zones section.I am not sure if this will work but go to the advanced tab once you are in the firewall section select custom ICMP filtering and press on ok. But I am afraid that at this moment stealth mode will also deny ICMP attempts.
