Need Help, Infected Tmp Files Every Few Hours

Options

I installed Bitdefender 2014 on my new Windows 8.1 tablet and it is reporting every x hours, like once per day, an infected temporary file and it says it couldnt remove it. When I look into the temp folder, there isnt any file which was mentioned in the log. I also did a complete system scan and doing so doesnt find anything. I also did a system scan with ESET online scanner and it didnt find anything.

Today when I powered on my Tablet, Bitdefender showed up a message it found another thread at 6:58am, but at that time the tablet was in sleep mode and I wasnt using it. Here are some of the log entries:

c:\users\mkdr\appdata\local\temp\wax4531.tmp Gen:Variant.Graftor.6958 (2014-01-28 06:58)

c:\users\mkdr\appdata\local\temp\waxd6fc.tmp Gen:Variant.Graftor.6958 (2014-01-27 20:38)

c:\users\mkdr\appdata\local\temp\wax1ba.tmp Gen:Trojan.Heur.FU.7AZ@aigAP2 (2014-01-27 18:38)

...

Whats going on? What should I do?

  • A quick Google reveals previous results for this at Bitdefender.

The location of those files is one used for actions by antivirus apps, Windows Update etc.

Try these and see what happens :

  • I said there are no files in there. And these are temp files, not any already running files somewhere. And a system scan doesnt find anything.

Just try the second link, those are the instructons from the support staff.

IF you searched the forum (and Google) before posting, you would see that this has come up several times previously as the result of a false positive.

If you follow those instructions, it will eliminate the FP from Windows Update.

That location will have files/folders that come and go, that is the purpose of the folder, it is a TEMPORARY folder.

Did you check in the Bitdefender Quarantine, the files could be held there.

  • Dont you have better things to do?

1.) I did use google first

2.) your link is from 2010, it's very, very, very, very, very unlikly that "false alarm" about Windows update still exists

3.) it is more likely a 3rd party program or internet activity tries to download a temp file (virus) and wants to install it

4.) why am I the only one having this problem then now in 2014? shouldnt it have millions if windows update is the source?

Send in a report to Bitdefender via the Help & Support link found bottom right of the BD GUI. That will be the quickest way to get your problem sorted as they may not pick it up from the forum. :)

    Edit for rubbish spelling. :(

  • Don't waste your time here or with Bitdefender support. Go to the Malwarebytes forum and one of many patient experts will walk you through a process to determine if you have any infection or PUP. https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showforum=7
