Help! The Main Bitdefender Window Won't Show!

I just installed Bitdefender Total Security 2008 on my Windows XP SP2 desktop. It installed smoothly, with no issues. I rebooted the computer like it said to, and sure enough, there was the little red BD icon in my icon tray on my task bar.

HOWEVER, when I double clicked on it, the main window didn't show up like it's supposed to. Also, if I right click the icon and choose "show", the main window still does not show up. The pointer changes to the little hourglass for a few seconds, like my computer is about to show it, but the window never pops up.

Similarly, the "about", "open advanced settings", and "fix all issues" windows won't show up when i choose them from the menu. The only one that works is the "update now", which works perfectly. weird...

Also, when I choose "help" from the menu, an error window pops up. It is titled "hh.exe - Entry Point Not Found" and it's contents are "The procedure entry point GetProcessImageFileNameW could not be located in the dynamic link library PSAPI.DLL". All I can do is press OK to make it go away. Maybe this is related to the "hidden" main window issue, or maybe it's different?

I've tried restarting my computer, exiting and re-opening the program, everything...

hopefully someone can help? thanks!

  • Hello bitd13,

I recommend that you do the following:

Use the windows search options you can use it by pressing the windows button together with f : type in the first box psapi.dll

now select the option all files and folders by search in choose local hard disks. Press on search. The only location where psapi.dll must be found is in the system 32 subfolder of the windows folder. If you find other entries double click on them to go to that location change the name to psapi.dll.old But first you need to go to the tools menu, folder options,display/view,uncheck the box hide known file extensions press on apply and ok. Now you will psapi.dll right click on it and choose for rename now add .old to it. Reboot your pc now. First download this uninstall tool. First right click on the red BitDefender icon near the system clock press on exit now run the uninstall tool. You will be asked to reboot your pc do that. Install BitDefender again.

    Best regards
