Bitdefender Crashes When Changing Resolutions

Hi,

when I change resolution to play an older game or similar, BitDefender reports "Program has stopped working".

I have no idea why this is happening.

Is it only the interface (gziface.exe) that dies? Does the server (gzserv.exe) die? Or do both of them die? You normally see both of them within the task manager details. You may check if you are protected, i.e., if the server is active, by trying to download the eicar test file from their website using the standard protocol http. Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition will block or quarantine the file as long as the server is running. I can imagine the interface may die if the is screen resolution is too low, since it needs to fit in the screen. If that is the case I would hope it does not drag the server to its death too. If it is the case that only the interface dies when the resolution becomes to low, you may simply restart it (through the Start menu, or the desktop icon) after your resolution is high enough.

You may want to contact Customer Support about this issue.

  • Frankly, I switched to another AV, and was hoping to give BitDefender another chance when a major update comes out, so I can't test actually which one is crashing, but I just wanted to report this annoying behavior - for a program that sits in tray, resolution change shouldn't even come near as something that can crash it...

  • Hello, I experienced the same problem reported by 2mg. I noticed that, while gziface.exe stops working, gzserv.exe is still running, in fact Bitdefender seems to work: if I try to download the Eicar file, the browser shows the message: "Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition has blocked a page"; even if I save a .txt file containing the Eicar text string, it is instantly saved as a .gzquar file, meaning that the text file was moved to quarantine. It's possible to easily restart gziface.exe by clicking the icon, as graciliano said. I hope too this could be resolved by a major update, becoming more and more "eagerly awaited", since the last version was published on 24 october, 5 months ago.

Just to report that gziserv.exe process keeps running, interface dies only for some reason. It breaks everytime I want to play an older game that doesn't have same resolution as my desktop @ 1920x1080. I also have Windows DPI increased if it makes any difference.

Hello, I registered in the forum just to add that this exact same issue is happening to me too. It's the only reason I have been uninstalling Bitdefender free (I reinstall it every now and then to see if it's been fixed).

I also hope this will be fixed with an update...

Apart from that, I have been very happy with it! But I like playing retro games and sometimes using DosBox and it's very annoying to getting the "bitdefender has stopped working" every time I do it.

  • I'm currently using CloudBacko Pro for server backup and the result is just promising. Besides local drive, it can also backup to Amazon S3, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Storage as well as FTP for offsite protection. Worth to take a look at www<dot>cloudbacko<dot>com
