Reminder To Update Other Than Systray Red B

Wife simply ignores the RED B in task bar :blink: <img class= " />

Is there a registry settings that counts the elapsed days (or date of) the last update by user. ?

I plan on running a ****** at startup to nag wife ... "Time to update"

We manually update for security reasons.

Autoupdate at boot is not an option. Bitdefender slows Win7 OS to bog slow on her laptop. (Internet connection is very slow after 6:30am)

(Have done all the usual house keeping to keep her lappy trim)

All I want is the registry key/item name ... thank you

I know you're a more advanced user, but I don't think even that will persuade Tech support to give us the "magic keys" let alone for everyone else to see where to make those changes...yet, they could surprise me on that one and post it

I know this isn't exactly what you're asking for, yet, apart from your request, your best option may be to create your "time to update" alarm clock for the wife, then set your updates to say, only once every 5 days or so (i.e. 7200 minutes) for the signature update interval, and maybe also the same for the product update. This at least will stop the daily update searches/downloads. As for the ones that are manually done, would have to be confirmed in the Events/Update logs. If you make the changes as shown below, make sure to open it in Notepad:

Yes, there is a way to change the update frequency in Bitdefender 2013. You need to open this file in Safe Mode:

C:\Program Files\Bitdefender\Bitdefender 2013\settings\system\update_settings.xml

Change the "interval" values:
    <SchedulerSettings>
        <SignaturesUpdate enabled="1" first="5" second="10" interval="15" />
        <ProductUpdate enabled="1" first="30" second="0" interval="60" />
    </SchedulerSettings>
In the above string 15 = 15 minutes and 60 = 60 minutes.

As you can see, by default Bitdefender checks for signature updates every 15 minutes and for product updates every hour.

You can increase these 2 numbers to change the update frequency according to your needs.

We both work from home. I try to keep our PCs breathing and with a regular heartbeat.

I can understand BD techs not wanting us to know "stuff", particularly to publicise it here for all the world to see.

But the last update "date" ? I cannot see how that would threaten the security structure of BD.

The white > orange > red BD icon is date driven. So there must be a date stored somewhere

I would like to ..... at startup, lookup the last update "date" (not upgrade date) ... if last-update is 3 days older than to day, show a msgbox alert.

We update BD manually, because auto updating every 2 hours is paranoia and our PCs & laptops slow to a grind while BD updates.

I update every morning .. get out of bed > push start > check for updates ... and it is all over by the time I am shaved and showered.

Auto updating (at startup) is a pain particularly when rebooting to test code.

A ****** to run at startup will only nag if the last update is >3 days ago.

I hesitate at a Yes/No option (and a reg-item or INI file) to store a date, because it risks fictional completed BD updates.

Your suggestion of changing data in the XML file ... I have only met XML in the last 4 months (MS Office 2010) so still learning.

I will re-read your idea ... it might be a better option than a ****** at startup.

From experience if I am away for a week BD updates can be enormous and very time consuming.

Correct, .xml is just the file type, but we will only be opening it up with Notepad:

I use Metapad 3.6 (options:- URLs as links + always on top) -- text editor.

But one of its failings is lost data with INI and some REG files (falls over line terminators)

Notepad is very stable with system files but it is so clunky.

I have just installed AkelPad but have yet to customize file associations.

Darling wife worked out there are 4,230 minutes in 3 days.

She says men are disadvantaged by our gender. Wotsa gender ?

Those can be found by opening the main BD UI, and at the top Events/Update/ and you will see the list and times. You can click on a update and view the update log in the Event Details box.

Yes, BD logs manual or a auto updates seperatly as long as there was an actual update to download. If it searched, or you tired a manual update, and it found nothing to update, it will not record/log it.

Looks like I might have found a solution by referring to a BD user data file.

It will take me a few days while I monitor "the file" before I am sure of my findings.

I will not publish my method here until I get an official OK from the heavies at BD.
