Bitdefender + Vlc Install Or Update + Ccleaner = Crash

While using bitdefender 2014 internet security or free, If you install VLC player or update it and then run ccleaner, ccleaner will crash while trying to erase the c:\users\*username*\appdata\local\temp\vlc-2.1.3-win32.exe file. It basically locks up the system, preventing reboot or shutdown on 5 different PC's here running win 7 64 bit with either bitdefender IS 2014 or bitdefender free. Rebooting into safe mode and manually deleting the item solves the problem until vlc is updated again. I have run into a couple other files that lock up BD in the same subdirectory but didn't write them down, I will in the future and post them here on the forum.

Hi pcdocstl, and welcome,

What may help in general as far as the paid version of BD (I'm not too familiar with the free version) is to add CCleaner into Exclusions. I just updated 1 PC (both are Windows 7 64-bit) to the newer version of VLC, and did a install of v. 2.0.8 on another PC from an older download. I then installed the VLC update with no problems after that in running CCleaner on both PCs. I had added CCleaner to Exclusions and Process exclusions. It has been kind of an on and off issue here. See the threads below, and you’ll see what we’ve been through, PC freezing and hard reboots, until exclusions were applied Let us know if this helps, at least with your 2014 BD IS PC.

Browser - Firefox: Depending the browser you are using their is also a VLC plugin. I disabled the plugin a while back. Sorry I don't recall why. It may have had to do with a security issue or a stability issue with Firefox.

I have used Firefox VLC and CCleaner for years. I used BD AV Free for over a year until several weeks ago when I upgraded to BDIS.

I have found over the years that when a new version of VLC becomes available the best way to update it; i.e the one that causes the fewest problems. Is to completely uninstall the old version first including any VLC plugins I may have been using. Then use CCleaner to cleanup. Finally install the new version of VLC.

I have never had a problem with VLC updates once I switched to doing a complete uninstall of the old verson first and stopped using the plugin.

I have never had a problem with VLC updates once I switched to doing a complete uninstall of the old version first and stopped using the plugin.

Maybe I should have tried running CCleaner on the PC with the new install (even though it was an old version) of VLC, and checked if I even would have needed to add CCleaner to the exclusions. Yet, for me, once bitten twice shy concerning my (and some others) experience when running CCleaner in Secure 3/7 overwrite passes, which is where we were seeming to run into trouble w/o adding to exclusions. But with your above solution, you weren't having problems with the free version, (which I believe you cannot add exclusions) just by clean uninstalls and installs of VLC.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, adding \program files\ccleaner\ccleaner64.exe to the antivirus file and processes exclution lists fixed it in BDTS but what to do with BD free?

The other files that I have constant problems with is cbsprovider.dll and my personal favorite after installing BD free is threatscanner.exe in the temporary internet files folder. Any suggestions for BD free since I am switching my customers from avast free due to avasts' warez/torrent site button placement to fake people into switching to the paid version.
