Setupdownloader.exe Fails On Install

edited July 2014 in Install & register

I have installed BDIS 2015 successfully on a Windows 7 Pro machine, and an XP Pro SP3 machine in the past 2 days.

Today, I am unable to install it on a Windows 7 Home Premium machine.

setupdownloader.exe fails almost immediately with an Event ID 1000.

Windows Firewall and Windows Defender are off, UAC is off, and the installer (tried both online and offline) have been unblocked.

No other security software is running.

I uninstalled BDIS 2014 using Programs and Features, and noticed it left a bunch of orphan registry keys.

Addtionally, the New Bitdefender Uninstall tool could not find any products to uninstall, even when BDIS 2014 was still installed (i went through several test cycles...in Safe Mode and standard).

Since I am using the same BD uninstaller and installer that was used on the other two machines, my suspicion is that there may be a Local Policy on this machine that is blocking the install, but unfortunately, Home Edition does not come with the Policy Editor.

  • Anyone from Bitdefender have any ideas?

  • Resolved.

Ran SFC /SCANNOW in an elevated command prompt window, and after that, the uninstaller and installer worked correctly.
