Failed Install On A Win Xp Pro Machine
After installing Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition, a pop-up screen appeared indicating all is well, but a minute or two later Windows popped up a message saying Bitdefender has encountered a problem and has to close, sorry for the inconvenience - and the Bitdefender screen then shows the two modules have changed from ON to OFF, leaving the computer unprotected.
Multiple tries to correct the problem by restarting the computer as suggested by BD didn't help, nor did repairing the BD (Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs>Change>Repair etc.) followed by a restart. Several times BD reported "Updating for the first time." Each time BD seems okay and then soon crashes.
It's a WINDOWS XP PRO Service Pack 3 system with a Sempron AMD 3000+ processor, 1.21 GB RAM, lots of free HD space, no other security software installed and no other foreground software running.
