Bitdefender Free.. Does It Have Adverts Built In ?

Hiya there

Firstly let me thank you for what seems to be a great anti virus product, it's very much appreciated by people like who myself have to watch every penny we spend.

I have been trying various anti virus products out there and have come full circle back to Bitdefender Free which i think giving the way it just sits there and does not interfere is my favourite.

There is just one question in have, on it's home page it has this..

Ad Free-Nag Free

This Is An Antivirus, Not A Sales Pitch.

You won't see annoying daily offers. Instead, Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition occasionally shows you personalized discount offers in case you want to go premium.

(Italics and bold mine)

So where do these 'ahem'.. personal discount offers appear, are they not adverts under any other name ?

It's not that a think a gentle reminder that upgrade options are available is a bad thing (especially in a very good free offering) but that its advertised as Ad-Free.

  • Hiya zooburner,

Are they "adverts" or are they recommendations for you to upgrade to a paid product from the same company which do offer more options than the free version? When I have used the free version I never saw any upgrade offers, nevertheless as you are running a free version I think these occasional ads cannot be frowned on, after all those of us who use the paid product are subsidizing your safety on the internet.

I guess it is the old saying is true that you don't get something for nothing, in the free version case it is the cost of a few clicks to dismiss an "advert" :)

  • I have not seen a single ad or suggestion to upgrade since I started using the free version.
