Firewall Disabled, Can't Get It To Start
Hi y'all! This is my first post here, so please be lenient .
First of all, so no repetitive questions follow, here are my basic System Specs:
PC: Gateway 504GH
CPU: 3.0 GHz
Hard Drive: 200 GB (48.0 GB free)
RAM: 1.5 GB
(Anything else doesn't seem relevant at the moment.)
I've performed a search but can't find what I'm looking for, so here goes...
The first time I installed BD 2008 Total Security, now roughly a month ago, everything worked fine except for the Firewall, which was disabled (shown by the two ugly red "X"s in the Activity Bar in the lower-right corner of the screen). Ferreting around, I found the Advanced Options, and when I tried to check the box to activate it, it gave me an error message stating "Failed to initialize BitDefender Firewall Drivers. Firewall disabled".
Then, I thought it was just a bug to to a badly-installed program (I'd forgotten to restart the PC, my bad...). I desinstalled it perfectly, restarted the PC, installed it again, restarted when it was time, and finally everything worked fine, I was only left to customize my settings.
However, since yesterday (30/05/08), the Activity Bar showed one large "X" for the Net Zone area, and no activity at all (minus the X) for the File Zone area. Opening up Advanced Settings again, I'm presented with the same stupid error: Can't initialize drivers.
Extra info: just before it stopped working, I had been growing impatient with the large usage of resources it was using on my PC and Internet so I had set most settings to Low (none to Off, don't wanna be ridiculous now), and had set it to Game Mode. Some time after this, minutes or hours (I was gone so I can't tell), the "X" had appeared. I hadn't deactivated anything, just lowered the Permission settings. Thinking it could have been a virus that was programmed to disable any antivirus (it's happened before), I performed a Deep System Scan (the only type I ever do) and found 3 Adware infections, no Viruses or Trojans. I can't get rid of the Adwares, though, for reasons the program just won't disclose, yet they don't disrupt any of my activities so I don't really care.
I'm just wondering if this is happening, or has happened, to anyone else? If so, how do you fix this? You see, Windows Firewall, however pathetic it may be, has been crippled for a long time since a long-cured Virus infection and can't start while I fix BD, so I'm feeling a little exposed here with my door wide open.
Please help, I'll give any additional info if asked for.
Thanks in advance.

Hello Bumdark,
Please try this press the windows button together with r now type devmgmt.msc press enter. Go to the view menu, click on show hidden devices. Now expand network adaptors do you see an entry called BitDefender Firewall NDSIS Filter driver. You may not see a red cross or an exclamation mark. If you see a red cross right click on it and choose enable reboot your pc. After that click on start, connect to,show all connections now right click on each connection you see and choose properties. Do you see an entry called BitDefender Firewall NDSIS Filter Driver? It should be and it should be checked. If not try this uncheck BitDefender Firewall NDSIS Filter Driver once you are in the network connection section of windows. Try the same thing also for the BitDefende Firewall NDSIS entries in device manager righ click on them and choose disable. Reboot your pc and enable them again by right clicking on them and choose enable.
Best regards
