Cd/dvd Burner Not Working With Bitdefender2008
Hi there,
I really hope someone can help. I'm not a technical whizz,
so any answers will need to be really straightforward. Sorry.
I have recently upgraded from bitdefender 9 to bitdefender 2008.
Everything seems to function correctly (Windows XP) except for
the CD/DVD burner. I can't burn anything, although I can read CDs.
When I uninstall bitdefender the burner works again as normal. When
I install it again, nothing burns. I see just the little egg timer and the
system completely blocks.
Can anyone offer any suggestions? I'm thinking of trying to get my money
back from bitdefender. I upgraded over the net just a few weeks ago.
When I upgraded, I didn't uninstall bitdefender 9 myself, but
bitdefender 2008 appeared to do this automatically when I installed.
Could this pose a problem? I have already gone back to scratch several
times: I uninstall everything, even using the uninstall tool that bitdefender
sent me.
I also notice that in the System file (material, network cards)
there is something called "bitdefender firewall NDIS filter miniport #4.
This stays in place even when I try to uninstall all elements of bitdefender.
Could this be a problem? I've tried to delete this but I'm not allowed
(a message says it could be important for a start-up).
Can anyone shed any light on this problem with bitdefender and my
burner?
Thanks in advance.

What Windows do you have ?! (is it XP ?!)
Do you have SP2 or SP3 ?!0 -
Hello SeamusK,
Can you be more specific?
In addition what crysty2k5 asked you.
I mean which burning software are you using? Which build are you using?
From what manufacturer is your burner?
What build of BitDefender are you using? To know that please right click on the red BitDefender icon near the system clock and press on show.
Can you please do this? Press the windows button together with r now type devmgmt.msc press enter. Expand dvd-/cd-rom stations do you see an exclamation mark?
Best regards

Hi,
Thanks for your help with this.
I will post the info you asked for when I get home from work tonight.
Cheers.
Hi,
My computer is a Packard Bell: XP Professionnel, SP2 Nu 2600 (5.1.2600).
The CD/DVD reader is Optiarc DVD RW AD-517OA.
There is no exclamation mark beside the reader.
But there is an exclamation mark beside the "bitdefender firewall NDIS filter miniport #4", which I can never seem to get rid of, even after uninstalling.
Does that info help?
Thanks for your time.0 -
Hi,
Just updated to Service Pack 3!
Cheers.
Also, I'm using bitdefender 2008 32 bits. Build: 11.0.16
Thanks.0 -
Hello SeamusK,
Normally when you first closed BitDefender by right clicking on the red BitDefender icon near the system tray and choose exit. If you run the uninstaller tool afterwards there shouldn't be any reference in the device manager.
Can you be more specific? Are you using BitDefender Internet Security 2008 or BitDefender Total Security 2008?
Did you tried to reinstall your burning software?
Did you tried empty dvd+/- r(w) or cd-r(w) from different vendors? You should test that also.
Some vendors offer you the possibility to reinstall the driver of your dvd or cd rom drive/writer. See if you can do that if so do that.
Best regards

Hi Niels,
I have BD Internet Security 2008.
It seems strange that I would have to reinstall the reader/burner, when it works perfectly well when BD is not installed.
It's also strange that when I uninstall BD, an element of it stays in the device manager list. (network cards).
Aggggghhhhhhh!!!
I'm not sure what to do.0 -
Hello SeamusK,
This is only a user forum.
Lets completely uninstall BitDefender. To do that first right click on the red BitDefender icon near the system clock choose exit. Click on start, control panel, software,BitDefender Internet Security 2008 choose remove (uninstall). Reboot your pc afterwards. Now run the specific BitDefender uninstall tool. Reboot your pc afterwards. Now install BitDefender again. If you have done that you shouldn't find an yellow exclamation mark by bitdefender firewall NDIS filter miniport.
You didn't have answered the other questions that I asked you to answer.
Best regards,

Hi Niels,
Thanks for your help with this.
I did as you said re uninstalling ... several times now ... but
the bitdefender firewall miniport NDIS filter reference in the network cards
category (device managers) always stays in place.
I'm using BD Internet Security 2008, 32 bit.
I haven't reinstalled the burner/reader. It's a Sonic, optiarc device that's built into
the computer. I'm reluctant to muck around with this because it works perfectly well
when bitdefender is not installed. I see bitdefender as the problem, not the burner.
I'm also using the same CDs/DVDs that I've used with the same computer for two
years now ... and they burn normally when bitdefender is not installed.
What do you think? I've also tried turning bitdefender off when burning, and even deactivating
all the options, but still the same problem.0 -
Maybe you should reinstall IDE drivers and assure yourself the burner is running in DMA mode not PIO.Same aplies to the hard drive ide channel.Properly mobo chipset drivers may solve the problem. On the other hand try to use different burning software ,older or newer versions of the same burning software may help.
Edit: You havent specified what burning software are you using ,never encountered problems with BD and LG burners while using Nero 6;6.6;7;8 on boards with VIA,AMD and Nvidia mobo chipsets.
Can you try using the BD 2008 antivirus version only (without the firewall included) to see if the issue appears? For properly removal use the BD uninstall tool.0 -
Hello SeamusK,
While burning is a very high task it's advisable that you do not use your computer during that process. Can you please do this press the windows button together with r now type dxdiag press enter. Please post what is written after processor, memory. Try also burning at the lowest speed possible. Close as many back ground processes. Close as many programs that are located in the system tray such as chat programs, crash prevention tools, etc
It's absolutely normal that you find bitdefender firewall miniport NDIS filter again but you may not see an yellow exclamation mark.

Hi, Sorry to get back so late. Been away.
Here's the info you asked for:
Processor: Intel ® Pentium ® 4 CPU 3.06 GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 1024 MB RAM
I hope that helps.
Re the filter miniport ... there is an exclamation mark too. Driver not installed. BUt then it won't let me anyway.0 -
Hello SeamusK,
You still didn't answered which burning software you are using. Please answer this question. I mean for example Nero,Sonic,...
Can you please do this also press the windows button together with r now type taskmgr press enter now press 2x on the CPU colomnname once you are on the processes tab. If you did it correctly you must see the highest value on top. Try to burn again and please write down which process is using lots of CPU. Please post it here in you next post. Try to end it by selecting it and press on end task.
Try this for the exclamation mark click on start, connect to,show (display, view) all connections, now right click on each connection you see choose properties select BitDefender Firewall NDIS Filter Driver and press on remove confirm.
Kind regards,

Hi Niels,
I'm using a Sonic burner (optiarc) built in to the computer (I thought
I mentioned this in an earlier reply.) :-)
I'm away from home now for three weeks so can't do too much
but will try to resolve things again when I get back. Thanks for
your help with this.0 -
Hello SeamusK,
What you said is your hardware = burner.
But to burn you need software. That is what I wanted to know. Which program do you start to burn a cd or dvd?
Click on start,(all) programs. See if you find any entries that have nero, roxio,Sonic Record Now! in the name. If you find one of them please post which you found.
Kind regards,
Niels0 -
Hi Niels,
Sorry, yes, it's Sonic Record Now.

Hello SeamusK,
Can you also say which version of Sonic Record Now!? You can gather that information by pressing on the ? sign, info about Record now.
Do you have another useraccount on your computer? If so see if when BitDefender is installed on that account you also have the issue. Or create a new fresh account uninstall BitDefender reinstall so it will also being installed for that account. If the problem also occurs on that account there might be a conflict. Please perform what is written here. After that contact support by logging in with your account.First you will be redirected to the BitDefender main page. Now click on my page. My care, under contact BitDefender press on email. Also add the link to this topic.
