Hello Sem,
Threatfire is able to update on my system. There is no difference between the firewall included in BitDefender Total Security 2008 and BitDefender Internet Security 2008.
Can you please do the following right click on the red BitDefender icon near the system tray press on open advanced settings go to the firewall section and press on the traffic tab. You need to allow tfservice.exe and tfud.exe to be able to let threatfire update. Both of these entries can be found in the the installation directory of Threatfire which is C:\Program Files\Threatfire

tfservice and tftray have permissions tfud is not listed... Is this why?

Hello Sem,
That is indeed the reason why you can't get updates. Both need to be allowed to be able to update the signatures.
Kind regards,

Ok so how do I make tfud appear on firewall list. Every theatfire notification has been allowed so far...

Ran tfud manually and it now appears on firewll list. However I still hve reservations as the figures haven't changed since running new update and never changed when I exited bitefender and ran update then....

Hello Sem,
If you receive the message your version has the latest updates you may almost sure that threatfire updated correctly. Keep also in mind that the product version itself will not change by each update.Maybe that is what you are referring to? The latest version should be 3.5.0. Which figures are you speaking about? If you mean protection statistics that is absolutely normall but that hasn't any to do with update of Threatfire. That only referes to which processes,programs,... Threatfire already had examined on your computer. Sometimes that isn't being updated.
Kind regards,

Hi Niels. Its these specific areas that cause concern: 1. The Map is missing 2. the malware/ adware threats remain old 3. The 'Event analysed + 'Programs analysed' under 'Your Protection' = those under 'Community Protection'

Hello sem,
What do you mean the map is missing?
You can see that threatfire is updated. Go to the installation directory: click on start,my computer, program files, threatfire now open the Database folder you can check the date of each file. So you can see that you are not using older signatures. I just installed it this morning to test and when I take a look at the database folder I can see downloaded signatures from today.
What you are talking about is absolutely normall so long you don't install anything new nothing will be changed in the statistics of Treathfire.
Kind regards,

thanks detals of database files:
created: 17 June
modified: 24 April
accessed: 20 June.
I reinstalled threatfire a few days ago... Let me know what you think.....0 -
Hello Sem,
When you opened the Database folder please right click on free space and by sort on select date. To be sure that it updated correctly you must find an entry that has 20 June or an older in June as date you can see that by left click on it now at the left side you will see the date.
Kind regards,
Niels0 -
the newest dates are:
created:17/06/08 all 20:19
modified: 24/04/2008 all 16:41
accessed: 20/06/2008 16:53
I think this is what you asked for...0 -
Hello Sem,
Do you find an entry called av10-039 ? It should have 21 June as date. You can see the date in windows xp once you left click with your left mouse button on av10-039 at the left side under details.
Kind regards,

Hello Sem,
Threatfire is working perfectly only the statistics aren't updated. But that isn't due BitDefender firewall because pctools is responsible for this. If you have allowed the executables you should be safe. Thanks for the heads up.
Kind regards,
Niels0
