Changing Networks

I have slowly enough BitDefender Internet Security 2008... I work on my own laptop at office and use it at home as well... The problem is I must connect to 2 networks - one at home other at office.. And EVERYTIME I come home or work I get same popups: is firefox allowed to connect to internet? is skype allowed? Its so ANNOYING . This is very good program I enjoy it very much on my desktop computer but this thing makes me crazy Can I do something? This is the thing keeping me away from renewing subscription...

Hello Akakus,

Normally, BitDefender should assign a different profile for each new network (i.e home and office, in your case), but always revert to using those two networks (so when you come back home, the "Home" profile should be applied, and the rules should be applied).

In my case, I have an office profile, a home profile, a school profile, etc... 5-6 profiles in total, and they switch correctly when needed.

In your case, the problem could be that IPs that your computer gets are always different, and BitDefender just doesn't recognize the old networks (and always thinks that it's a new network).

What kind of network settings do you have for home/office network?

Yes so it must be IP prob . At home IPs are assigned dynamically but have long live - couple days if I remember - this is not important I can make static for me because got router at my room, but at office I can't do anything . I got IP from a certain pool and it often differs - I can't change it.. So what do you suggest? Can I turn off auto profiling functionality?

Yes, you can try to set BD to use a generic profile for all networks.

For this:

- go to Firewall-> Traffic and select Reset Profile

- right after that, go to the Advanced tab and enable Apply the same (generic) profile to all new networks

This option, as it's name states, is applied only to new networks. If it doesn't work, you should delete all previous profiles.

Unfortunately, BD doesn't have this option, so you'll have to do it manually:

- reboot your computer in Safe Mode

- go to the folder C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2008\Firewall\Profiles and delete all files from there

- reboot in normal mode and repeat the first two steps (reset profile and apply generic profile).

Yes, doing this will delete all firewall rules, so BD will ask you again about the applications. But this time, it should ask only once and remember the choice for all networks.

Thanks Cris! It helped - I have reconnected to my network got new address from DHCP server and firewall is using the same rules .
