Can You Tell Bd To Ignore A File?

Options

Is there anyway to set a few files to have BitDefender ignore them when they come up as a virus? BD keeps picking up a file as a trojan and keeps sending it to Quarantine. I've changed all scans to not disinfect, but to prompt user for action, so I can see which files BD doesn't like, but it would be much easier to have it ignore those few troublesome files.

Thanks.

Pack the file(s) in a zip or rar archive, protect it with the password infected and upload it here in a new post. ;)

Maybe is a false positive, maybe is a virus.

If you want BD to ignore the files, just add the to the Exclusion list ;)

Right now I'm running the free version of BitDefender (I have 3 PCs, one still has a Kaspersky license for a few more months and want to purchase for all 3 at once instead of them all staggered like they've been). Is the exclusion list an option that's not available in the free version? I can't find it anywhere yet.

    Thanks for the help.

    Hello Henderson,

The v10 Free doesn't have an exclusion list, but not because it's free, but because v10 only had an exclusion list for the Realtime Protection (and since v10 Free doesn't have Realtime Protection, the exclusion list is missing).

But, as crysty said, if BD wrongly detects a clean file as infected, the best way is to put it in a password protected archive (password: infected), attach it here, on the forum, and detection will be removed (if it is indeed a false alarm). This method will ensure that no other users will receive this false alert, and it will improve BD's detection system.

  • Thanks for the info, that explains it.

The file is the LeakTest.exe from Steve Gibson's Shields Up! site. There's a few other similar test files I keep around that I'm certain do not contain a virus, but can see how they might be detected as such.

The file can be found here: http://www.grc.com/lt/leaktest.htm

If you are referring to http://www.grc.com/files/leaktest.exe , that test isn't detected by antivirus 2008 engine, maybe your definitions from v.10 are old. If not there may be some problems with v.10. Please tell me what version of v.10 you're running and the version of definitions.

I'm not sure where to find the exact v.10 info, but file bdlite.exe is 10.1.0.2, file bdcom.exe is 10.2.0.15.

But I also downloaded the LeakTest.exe file again and now it's not being detected as a virus, I probably had an older version of it. Thanks much for the help.

It was probably something that had to do with the older definitions. Keep in mind that this file will be detected by certain other AV solutions and probably with every version change of the leak test BitDefender will detect it.
