Frequent Internet Disconnects

A couple of days I keep getting disconnected from the internet, it happens randomly most of the time once every 10-30 (in same cases it gets disconnected right after i have reconnected). In addition, my home phone has a static noise whenever i receive or proceed a call. Yesterday, i was able to use the phone to call people but today it doesn't seem it be working - i fear that this problem is getting worse.

I am worried that a virus or dialer is the cause of this, though i have ran several virus scans and come up with nothing. I have yet to query my ISP for advice but i have not had any other source of phone access.

The ping results show a working connection.

Also, because your phone is affected, I seriously doubt that it has anything to do with a computer infection.

May I ask if you have any problems with your phone while the computer is shut down?

Also, what kind of connection do you have? If it's dialup, you can't use your phone while you're connected to the internet with your computer. On the other hand, if it's ADSL or cable, then the phone and internet lines are separate, so the only thing that affects both the phone and the computer is a network problem. Please contact your ISP for troubleshooting.

    Cris.

P.S.: Because I'm in a good mood, I took a look at your log in the other topic. It's clean...another reason to contact your ISP for further investigations.

  • I have a ADSL modem and two filters (one on the ethernet cable and the other on my phone). When i shut down my computer i still hear a static noise on my phones and unable to ring. But when i plug out my ADSL modem i hear less static noises and i can ring. Also my ISP and phone service are the same i think. I have yet to try changing the filters, because i think they need replacing.

I will give my phone service a call later on today and come back to you with the results.
