Bd Internet Security 2008 - Firewall Won't Start
This started happening yesterday. Upon restart the Firewall will not start, and there doesn't seem to be anyway to start it up manually (everything I try fails).
Trying to "fix it" results in nothing.
Trying to enable it within the settings panel of BD results in the following error:
Failed to initialize BitDefender Firewall drivers. Firewall disabled.
Checking all BitDefender services says they are all started.
As a result of this happening on an established system (install was a few weeks old) I reinstalled Vista Ultimate 64 last night.
Firewall acts the same after reinstalling on a fresh copy of Windows. It was the first thing I loaded after finishing the Vista 64 install. After rebooting the firewall was disabled.
Even before the nForce drivers for my EVGA 780i motherboard and the Forceware drivers. It was absolutely the first thing I installed.
No Windows updates have been applied yet (I have it prompt me what updates to install), so that tells me that it's likely a recent update with BD that has caused this problem.
edit:
Found several Application Errors in The Application Event Log:
Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2008\bdagent.exe". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.MFC,processorArchitecture="amd64",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.762" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.
4 of those listed with the source of "SideBySide"...just after the system recorded successfully creating a restore point:
Successfully created restore point (Process = C:\Windows\system32\DrvInst.exe "4" "0" "C:\Users\Thunder\{d8df0920-f2fb-479a-b520-09f1708ec250}\netsf.inf" "9" "6dea90d3f" "00000000000004E8" "WinSta0\Default" "0000000000000450" "208" "C:\Program Files\Common Files\BitDefender\BitDefender Firewall"; Description = Device Driver Package Install: BitDefender Network Service).
The one thing that stands out to me on this is the "amd64" in the first quote....I have an Intel Core2Duo e8400...is Bit Defender setup incorrectly detecting the proper cpu for my system?
