Registry Cleaner

I ran Registry Cleaner on, 07/19/08 that was part of BD Total Security 2008, on Desktop(Windows2000Pro. SP4), then my son ran it on 7/25, and 7/26 twice because BD TS icon indicated immediate attention was required. Since then my computer will not shutdown automatically most of the time, I now have to use power button to turn it off after it blue screens during shutdown. There is nothing in Event Viewer about this problem, so far everything else seems to be working OK. I tried to Recover Registry 3 times and BD said it was successful, but when I checked the history log it read task aborted. I now have Registry Cleaner disabled, so immediate attention icon no longer shows up in BD console. Would it be wise to leave things alone or to try to restore backed up Registry in BD folder with Registry Editor at this time since so many days have passed. I've also noticed some of BD log files are many hours ahead of my system clock is this considered normal. I have used BD products for many years now and really thought they were great. But BD Total Security seems very buggy, I was considering installing it on my new laptop which has Norton 360 on it now without the 1st problem. but I wouldn't think of of now. And I bought the 3 licenses that I wonder if need to drop like smoking hot potato.:wub:

    Hi tds,

Just a quick note. There is a free program called ERUNT that is very highly rated. It backs up the registry every time you boot and saves these for 30 days. It does a marvelous job of restoring a registry and is very easy to set up and use. A very valuable tool. I know all of these registry programs offer a backup procedure but I find ERUNT to be the best. You can also restore your registry from a 'run' cmd menu if you could not boot up. Check it out. Hope it helps in the future.

  • Windows 2000 doesn't have a good system restore, it will only take you back to last successful start up. Still don't know if it would be safe to restore backed up registry in BD files with regedit.
