Firewall Conflict With Windows 10

With the impending overwhelming adoption of Windows 10, we are going to have to re-address this issue. This first came up when Windows 8 & 8.1 started this “Store Apps” problem. You ignored and side-stepped the problem at that time, and will probably do the same thing again.

“Windows could not start the Windows Firewall on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 13.”

Any contact with the Windows Store is blocked by the fact that you have destroyed the original Windows Firewall. The Store will not deal with anything other than “Genuine Microsoft Firewall”. There is no way to turn off the Bitdefender Firewall and turn on the Windows Firewall. The Windows Firewall has been wiped out. There is no Firewall, no remnants of the Firewall Policy. Uninstalling BDIS leaves us with no firewall at all.

You are going to have to find some way to “Play nice” with Microsoft. You have deliberately made yourself the only game in town. It has actually gotten worse with the latest releases of Windows 10. None of the Windows “Universal Windows Programs” aka “Metro Apps” will run on any of my three PC's.

Please, find some way for us to work around this issue.

Thanks,

Leighton

  • Hello Leighton,

Firstly please make sure you post in the proper section of the forum.

Bitdefender does not make any changes to the Firewall, the Windows Security Center detects the presence of 3rd party security solutions and disables the Windows Firewall and displays the currently used security.

From the description it would seem you have a faulty Windows, regardless please follow the steps in the article bellow in order to resolve the situation with your Firewall.

For the applications, if you uninstall the product are you able to use said applications ?

  • When using Bitdefender, if Windows "detects the presence of 3rd party security solution and disables the Windows Firewall" why would I need to repair the Windows firewall? Just wondering because I have similar issues.

  • Hello,

That step was provided for Leighton as he mentioned his Windows Firewall is damaged and hes unable to download applications from the Windows Store.

What the Store actually needs is to have the service up and running as it houses more than just the firewall, it is tied to several other applications and it is a known issue under Windows 8 and 8.1.

You can either use the fix-it to repair the firewall or find the service and just enable it, regardless if you have a 3rd party security solution or not as the Security Center will keep the firewall part disabled.
