gzserv.exe hogs CPU, grinds system to a halt

About once a month I run into this problem. My system suddenly becomes incredibly unresponsive and when I check task manager, gzserv.exe is using up all of my CPU to do who-knows-what. BitDefender is idle as far as I know -- it's not doing any sort of scan. I try to terminate gzserv.exe or change the priority of the process, but my access is denied.

I can stop it by uninstalling BitDefender, but that's not a good solution. I would rather not return to AVG. Does anyone have any solutions?

  • Hello,

What operating system are you running on that machine ?

What version of the Bitdefender Free are you running ?

Do you have any other security solutions on that machine ?

Are you doing something specific on that machine at the time when the slowdown occurs ?

A screenshot of the Task Manager showing all applications arranged by CPU usage would help.
