won't install

Strange situation. I've been using free edition antivirus for years. Using firefox on up to date Win 10
Had a problem with my laptop and bitdefender would not start.
So I uninstalled and downloaded bitdefender online exe. Clicked and the download commenced and installed.
Next it said sorry to see you go and uninstalled. I've tried this at least 5 times.
Having to use Windows Defender.
Is there a specific download link for the antivirus free edition?.
Is there a specific uninstall .exe that I should 1st use to clean up any left overs, had to do that with AVG some years ago?
Makes no sense, still using it on other computers with no problems.
