At Windows Startup, Some Apps Can't Connect Until Bd Is Loaded

I installed BitDefender Free v10 a few days ago, but now I have the following problem. When Windows (XP Pro SP2) starts, some programs fail to connect (to the internet) as long as BitDefender doesn't show up in the systray yet.

For some reason it takes a long time before the BitDefender icon even appears in the systray and until then, programs like Live Messenger and Orb fail to connect and throw error messages. Only when the systray icon appears will these program succeed in connecting.

Anyone know what's causing this and how to solve it?

Hi, I'm just passing through but have had your problem. I always thought BD should be the first program to load, but this is not the case. We've all experienced this. I have succesfully resolved this using free Winpatrol. It gives you the ability to delay startups until BD loads avoiding most of these problems. Many programs will allow this save a few. Those that do not just return to their normal place. Give this a try. Winpatrol also provides much additional sys info.

Ok, I investigated some more, and apparently it's not only Bitdefender causing the problems. I also have a HP Laser Printer and it's its driver in combination with BitDefender that is causing the problems. If I uninstall both (the HP drivers and BitDefender), the problem goes away. If I install BitDefender only, then the problem isn't there either. If I install the HP drivers only, the problems are intermittent. But with both installed, the problem is there - all of the time.

I'm glad you've discovered this much, The HP driver appears to be the true source of the problem. I'm afraid, however I don't have the expertise to help you any further. Perhaps someone else here can help you. Wait and see.
