Does Internet Security have an ad-blocker? My previous firewall software had one, and I can't find it here...

  • No it hasn't! :) The only thing that has for your security over the internet besides HTTP scan it's Parental Control.

If you use Firefox I recommend you to use Adblock Plus as an add-on for it: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865

    Hope this helps. ;)

Use also the Adblocker Filterset.G updater in conjunction with Adblock :

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1136

It updates automatically between 4-7 days you can also make your own rules.

    Little bit off-topic:

Another handy extension is no-****** : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722 For blocking javascript.

Not only javascript. It also blocks Java, Flash, and other plug-ins and tags (like <a ping...>). It's a very useful plug-in :)

    Does anyone use MVPS host?

You can use a HOSTS file to block ads, banners, 3rd party Cookies, 3rd party page counters, web bugs, and even most hijackers. This is accomplished by blocking the connection(s) that supplies these little gems.

    Hi Cris

You are right. Thanks for correcting me

    Regards

    Hi khufu

Spywareblaster do the same thing as the hosts file of mvps. You can also manually edit the hosts file. First you must choose open with and then choose for wordpad of draft block (but I am not sure that this is a correct translatation). Then you can manually add sites. But it's handy to use an modified hosts file or using a program such as spywareblaster which writes to the hosts file.

Sometimes malware uses the same technique for redericting you to their sites or blocks the access to update servers of antivirusvendors.

    Hi Niels

I know i can edit host file, and i use hoster for that, it also has a function to make host file read only. I use only host file from MVPS and i can say i have no problem with ads.

    Hi khufu

I didn't know you already knew it. That's why I posted it. I also use hoster to easily remove or add sites to the hosts file.

    No problem Niels.

I like to see people replying to my posts, because i can learn new things or i can see a confirmation that i have right in some situations or other people use the same software/settings for 0-day protection.
