I cannot exclude / blacklist / restore any files from a false positive

I am using BitDefender Free downloaded from here, Windows 7 Ultimate, on a high end computer (X99 i7, 16GB RAM with little load, SSD half empty, GTX 970). No other antivirus on the computer, Windows Defender is disabled. No viruses or malware on the machine.

So, I downloaded a .rar archive which is an obvious and confirmed false positive, which I trust.

Once it has downloaded I extract it.

When I try to copy it somewhere, it says "You need permission from X user" to copy this file, which obviously means that the antivirus has detected it.

Yet only 5 minutes later does a balloon dialogue appear in the bottom right telling me it has detected it. Causes a little confusion, but not an issue at all.

After this, I open up the antivirus, and exclude the file and restore it from quarantine.

I run the program and it runs great. But I close it, then run it again, and it crashes.

Then I notice that the .dll for it has gone missing (there was one before). Nothing appears in BitDefender until 5 minutes later. No exaggeration.

I repeat the steps of re-extracting the .rar, excluding when it is detected, then restoring from quarantine.

But I still cannot copy the .dll or run the program. It says I don't have any permissions, which only the antivirus could have done.

Any ideas? I have waited for half an hour, restarted, etc. But nothing appears. Any new extraction of the .rar is removed and nothing appears in BitDefender. Even with different filenames and paths. Pretty frustrating. Unfortunately, BitDefender is the only antivirus that effectively stops ransomware getting into the PC when my grandfather opens fake attachments from email spam.

All help is widely appreciated.
