BitDefender Blocking Seti@home
I've been a Set@home user for a time now and also a BitDefender Antivirus user. The two now seem to be incompatible with my setup anyway.
A few days ago I noticed that Seti had no tasks. I clicked on Update and never got any new tasks - I figured that the server was down. A few days on the situation was the same. I checked the forums and concluded the problem was mine.
I updated to the latest BOINC - no difference. Eventually I suspended BitDefender and lo and behold I get new tasks and off we go.
Here are the relevant bit of the logs with BitDefender off and on.......
On:
13/09/2017 5:53:54 PM | SETI@home | update requested by user
13/09/2017 5:54:00 PM | SETI@home | Sending scheduler request: Requested by user.
13/09/2017 5:54:00 PM | SETI@home | Requesting new tasks for CPU and NVIDIA GPU
13/09/2017 5:54:04 PM | | Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
13/09/2017 5:54:04 PM | SETI@home | Scheduler request failed: Server returned nothing (no headers, no data)
13/09/2017 5:54:08 PM | | Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.
Off:
13/09/2017 5:55:57 PM | SETI@home | update requested by user
13/09/2017 5:56:01 PM | SETI@home | Sending scheduler request: Requested by user.
13/09/2017 5:56:01 PM | SETI@home | Requesting new tasks for CPU and NVIDIA GPU
13/09/2017 5:56:03 PM | SETI@home | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
13/09/2017 5:56:03 PM | SETI@home | Not sending work - last request too recent: 119 sec
(no new tasks here because I'd just tested this and already downloaded them)
Anyone got any clues as to how to fix this - besides the obvious to delete BOINC (Seti@home) or BitDefender!
Thanks,

That's very interesting - I'm also running BOINC with the SETI@Home project, and I AM getting tasks with BitDefender enabled. In fact, I was completely unaware that BitDefender Free Edition had any sort of web safety measure.
Then again, my Windows Firewall is deactivated - maybe BitDefender is modifying Windows Firewall settings like that? Try disabling it, see what happens. (If it works, try seeing if you can forgo Windows Firewall for a firewall solution within your router)0 -
still having problems with it?0
