Bdss.exe + Explorer.exe

Hi@all,

in the last time I discovered that the Bitdefender related process bdss.exe needs a lot of my CPU (50-80%). In parallel I had some trouble with the windows explorer. So I could not open it anymore to browse through my files. First of all I thought its a problem with a few programs I updated lately. So I uninstalled the whole bunch of it (java jre 1.4 and update 7, video programs and screen savers (MS video screen saver, vlc media player) and so on). After reboot the system worked much better than before. But later on it slowed down again and the explorer.exe was totally blocked (99% cpu usage). Than I uninstalled the bitdefender system, because there have been a few MS operating system updates lately and that could have had also an influence on the bitdefender files / engine. After uninstalling the bitdefender system the computer was as fast as I haven't seen it for ages. Now I reinstalled bitdefender and updated it to the least file versions. The computer is a bit slower than before but explorer.exe works fine.

Now my question:

What processes of bitdefender need the most cpu?

What do I really need of that program to be set in the several windows of the program window?

I have been warned after the update that the new engine uses more cpu power when bitdefender is working in "deep system scan mode" or something like that. If that is the case that my computer is that slow after a while how to turn that off to get a better performance of my system?

My computer data:

IBM ThinkPad R40

1,4 Ghz mobile Intel Centrino

1,5 GB DDR RAM

32 mb mobile ATI 7500 RADEON

120 GB 4200 rpm hard drive

Topic open to discussion - thank you!

What BD version are you using?

Have you removed properly any leftovers from previous security softwware used?

Check to see if in Windows services there are no services left behind by another antivirus software. This can lead to performance issues.

  • What BD version are you using?

BD10, I bought a 2 years license. So the engine should be updated to the last version

there is nothing left. I am using BD now for the time I have this notebook. I know that i.e. symantec leftovers lead to trouble
