BD Free keeps stopping
After many years of trouble free operation BD Free has recently developed a problem. It either won't start up when the PC (Windows 7 Home) is booted or else or does start and runs for a few minutes and then stops. In both cases the B symbol in the system tray has an X on it and opening up the console shows the Protection Shield is off. If I try to turn it on manually it won't turn on ("Failed to activate protection. Please retry"), or only does so for at most a few minutes before turning off again.
I tried uninstalling and re-installing BD Free, and it seemed to be okay for about 10 minutes but after scanning about 200000 files it switched itself off again and won't stay on again for long. Reboots don't help.
I've run MalwareBytes Free (manually initiated, not normally running) and it doesn't report anything. I don't knowingly have any other AV product running at the same time as BD. (During the re-install it did find a McAfee something or other that I didn't knowingly install but BD got rid of that during the re-install).
Can anyone suggest what the problem and fix may be please?

Having found a few similar reports in old postings in the forum without any offering a solution (unless I missed one) I have now switched to Avast as I couldn't afford to be unprotected. Sad, as I'd used BD AV Free for many years without problems. Thanks for all the prior protection. I will monitor this thread and if a solution is found I may come back if I find Avast problematic.
