Help with BD install?
Hi there - just bought BD to use on 2 pcs, installed and running on desktop but can't get it to install on my laptop. Have contacted 'Tech Support', but not with much joy! Install begins and gets to stage of 'Starting new services', then I get error message ' Service Bit Defender Scan Server (BDSS) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.' Then states 'Rolling back action' and uninstalls everything again! Yikes!
Any advise would be gr8 . Cheers, Deb

Hi, Deb!
I suppose that you are running your laptop OS with administrator privilege. Do you have any other security software installed? What OS are you running, XP or Vista?

Hi
I uninstalled the AVG, but still have Windows Defender on system - oh and running XP ... cheers, Deb0 -
Hi Deb
Could you please try this : go to start,my computer, user accounts, user accounts and see if your account is an administrator account. If that isn't the case then you have to install BitDefender on the administrator because on a non-administrator account BD will not install.

Hi Niels,
Thanks for that - I have checked, my user accounts says 'Debs Computer Administrator Password Protected'
Any ideas? Debs0 -
Hi Debs
That is strange.Because normally when you are using xp than you must be able to install.
Try this:
Download microsoft cleanup utility: http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9...1bd/msicuu2.exe
Install it and select everything that has BitDefender or Softwin in the name and press on remove. Take also a look if you don't find a reference of AVG or Grisoft. If you find these references select and remove them. I also recommend that you download these programs to be sure that AVG is completely uninstalled:
ccleaner do not forget to uncheck yahoo toolbar during installation: http://www.filehippo.com/download/9838386a...32ae2/download/
Run the cleanup and the problem option. Fix every problem that is found. Finally download regcleaner:
http://www.worldstart.com/weekly-download/.../regcleaner.exe Check every reference that has AVG or Grisoft in the name after you done that press on remove selected.
Reboot your pc and retry the installation. Are you able to install other software?

I tried rebooting using the BD rescue disc? The black screen with a few confusing icons?
I'm not a happy girl at the mo ... can anyone please help!! Debs0 -
Hi wagnerart
Try this press push all these buttons together in: control+alt+del(ete) or control+left shift+esc(ape) go to file execute a new task (proces) type at the dialog box explorer.exe and press on ok. Reboot afterwards and tell me if you now see the start menu bar, ... Did you received an error message or did your pc crashed without any message? Would you please try this go to start, run,at the run dialog box type eventvwr press enter. Doublclick on system and application events and post the error messages that occured when your pc crashed. Take also a look if there wasn't anyother antivirus that came pre-installed on your laptop?
Regards
Niels0 -
Nope still nothing!!! There was no error message when it crashed. And I don't think there was antivirus on pc when I bought it.
I have installed other progs, like Paintshop Pro and Frontpage with no problems.

Hi Debs
From which manufacturer does your pc come? Or please give me a link if you can. So I can see if there was an antivirus pre-installed.
Did you also took a look in the eventviewer? I recommend that you try the following: reboot your pc and press several times on the F8 button before the windows loadingscreen. Choose for load last working configuration or something similar and press enter to confirm. If that doesn't work try this do the same but choose for safe mode. Put in your windows cd-rom go to start, run,at the run dialog box type cmd press enter after that type sfc /scannow and press on enter. Did you installed any other progs after BitDefender? If so I suggest that you uninstall them also in safe mode.

You're a star Niels
I have just managed to reboot in safe mode and have restored to previous settings without BD. Lost faith with BD so I think will go back to the AVG Pro which I had before!
Thanks for all your help! Debs0 -
Hi Debs
Sad that you have troubles with BitDefender.
I never had installation problems with BitDefender. I use BD since version 8.0.
There could be a possible conflict with the realtime protection of windows defender. If you still want try to disable windows defender realtime protection during the installation. Because it could be that defender was scanning the installation files and as a result the installation of BitDefender fails. Try also to temporary uninstall windows defender. There are other better freeware antispyware products on the market such as superantispyware free edition.

Hi, Debs.
There are many times when 2 security products cause more harm than good... So I would recommand you to stick to only one security product.

I've been having the same problem as Deb.
I just upgraded from BD pro 9 to BD total security 10 and I keep getting error 1923.
I have XP, am installing with admin rights, used ccleaner, regcleaner, and windows install cleanup at least 6 or 7 times, and I still get the error about privileges.
Thanks for any help in advance.0
