Hiccups installing Bitdefender on fresh install of Windows 7
Hi guys, currently seem to have everything working but here's what happened:
Laptop got a clean restore install of Windows 7. Put Chrome browser on it. Went to put Bitdefender Free on the machine. Downloaded the installer, ran it, it downloaded the rest of the program and got started. It informed me that Bitdefender can't run on a machine with such an old version of Internet Explorer (IE7?). OK. I installed Internet Explorer 11. Ran the downloaded installer again. It went through downloading the rest of the program and ran it. It gave me a screen to create a Bitdefender account, but when that closed there was no other sign of the program, nothing in the tray, no shortcut, not in the list of programs. There was a Bitdefender Agent in the list in Windows' add/remove programs. I clicked on it and it disappeared.
Ran the downloaded installer again. Again, it went though downloading the rest of the program and ran it. This time it said it was going to roll back because of a previous install error. It failed. I googled the problem, and looked for the Bitdefender Free removal tool, but I couldn't find it. Again, I found the Bitdefender Agent in the list of windows add/remove, this time, I clicked and got an 'uninstall' option. It went away from the list. I snooped around in the Windows file tree and found Bitdefender there, looked like some installer files. I deleted the folder.
I downloaded a fresh copy of the installer. Ran it. This time, it looks like everything went fine. Bitdefender looks like it's running properly on my machine. (A few other Windows updates happened with reboots during all of this.)
One question: would you recommend using the uninstall tool and doing another fresh install of Bitdefender? Or is it likely that all that flailing around did not leave any messes in the laptop?
Thanks!

At this point, it seems like everything should be up and running. As long as Windows Security Center reports that Bitdefender Antivirus is on, everything should be fine.0 -
Great. Checked and it looks good. Appreciate the reassurance. Good day Mr. D!0 -
Glad to hear everything is back to normal!
