The easiest and most direct way is to right click on the BitDefender icon (bottom right hand side of screen) and select exit. This results in a complete shutdown under normal circumstances.

You can restart it either by selecting "Start -> Programs -> BitDefender 2008 -> BitDefender Internet Security 2008" (substitute the version you are using) or by rebooting your system.

    Hope that helps.

  • That option just close the main console, the BD services are still active.

You can disable real time protection and registry protection if you want to install some programs.

  • I to would like to disable BD for various reasons e.g. install programs; run programs that may not like the security of BD. Right clicking on the task bar icon does not give me an option of closing the program. Disabling real time protection does not shut down the services that Bd has running; at least it appears that way.
