Bd Slowed My Computer To A Crawl
I just had my computer reformatted last week (XP). There is no virus program in it and it runs great. I know it won't for long without a program, so i surfed all over, read discriptions and finally decided on Bit Defender. I downloaded it from the 'net and once installed, my machine kinda froze up. Finally it did start working, but very, very slowly. One reason I decided on BD, was it stated that it would not slow do computers. I know all of them slow them down some, but BD made mine unuseable. I went to the control panel and removed it (took a while), but now it runs like new again. Any suggestions? I am not a "techie", so I really don't know what to do other than try some other program.

Could you post the spec of your machine, prob will help people start finding the issue here. Also, have you updated windows to SP3 etc?
Even on my old (slow) pc BD never slowed it down. So i think something is going wrong for you and you may find the problem remains with other AV programs.
I would stick around for advice as BD is very good.0 -
a new machine, after a day or two, becomes fragmented. Try defragging your machine or doing a registry clean. both are features of 2009 total.

dodgeguy,put here your machine specs and also specify if you installed latest drivers for all your PC components.Tell us also the full name of the BD version used.If you re system seems slow with BD 2009 go fir BD 2008 ,on older systems seems lighter though on a dual core BD 2009 performs better than BD 2008.Before switching versions use the BD Uninstall Tool(link in my signature).

As I say this is an old machine. 1.1 gig processor 128 mb ram. I have more ram on the way to be installed. It is a Gateway just reformatted with the original XP discs. The tech that did the reformat I am sure did everything she could to make it like new. She also mentioned an older version of virus software might work better in an old machine. This is why I opted for the basic BD package with the virus control and spyware. I ran The Shield for a long time with no problems, but the version I had was discontinued. I even tried to reinstall it using the key but it rejected it. Anyhow, as I say I am not really computer literate, so you'll have to use layman's terms so I can understand. I have the same issue with bd. The only that I have left running on my pc is Spyware DR. All other virus tools have been removed. I have hesitated on removing swdr for the simple fact that it is the best rated spyware on the market and I am not sure how well bd will work in this area. Does bd and swdr conflict with each other?

I contacted BD customer service yesterday and have heard nothing from them. Guess they don't care once they have your money. Seems to be the norm this day and time. That's OK, there are hundreds of forums and such on the 'net to tell others to beware. I most likely won't get any of my bucks back, but you'll be surprised how much bad publicity $24 can buy.

Your problem is that you have to low memory. 128 mb is just enough for running windows xp. Also 256 mb ram is the minimum to be able to use the BitDefender 2009 products. If you upgrade your memory to 512 mb or 1 gb than everything should be fine. You need at least 256 mb ram to run BitDefender 2009 products barely on windows xp. 512 mb ram is recommended to run BitDefender 2009 products. That is clearly written when you take a look at the system requirements.
