Real Time Shield Disappears When Switching Profiles

Options

I am running BD v10, build 247 on a Win xp machine that has four user profiles. Frequently, when I switch profiles the shield will fail to load. I can double click the BD exe and get it enabled but the problem is my other users may not notice that real time is not enabled. The point is that I should not have to worry about real time protection loading. Even though I feel BD is better than what I had before (Macafee) at least I didn't have to remember to see if I was being protected. Calls to BD support are not helpful and their email response is a joke. The last time I emailed I had to call them because they didn't repond. When they did they gave me the standard "well, you have to uninstall this anti-spyware program and that anti-spyware program" etc but that did not help.

Has anyone else had this problem and found a fix? I am really disappointed with BD and will probably go with another AV software. Thanks.

    Hi plt5

You can verify if everything is loaded when you look at the BitDefender icon that will change its colour and you will also see a popup. To know if BD is running than you have to see these processes and services running in task manager (go to start, run,at the run dialog box type taskmgr press enter): bdss.exe,bdagent.exe,bdmcon.exe,livesrv.exe,vsserv.exe and xcommsvr.exe. If that is the case BD is running correctly.

Check this also go to start, run,at the run dialog box type services.msc press enter double click on each service that has BitDefender in the name normally by start up type automatic must be selected.

    Hi Niels,

Thanks for the reply. Everything is running except for bdmcon.exe. I checked the services and it shows that the shield is started but it is not. I then tried to click the program to start it again but the shield shows up for a second in the system tray, shows up in the task manager process window for a second and then disappears! It will not stay enabled. Again this is a problem that occurs periodically when I switch from one Windows profile to another. It always loads on boot up. Is there anything else I can try? I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the program. Thanks.

    Hi plt5

Try if it works by logging that particular account out. Instead of switching to another account. If that also fails than I recommend that you uninstall BitDefender by using this removal tool: http://www.bitdefender.com/uninstall run it and reboot your pc afterwards. Reinstall BitDefender again. If that still will not work contact livechat: http://www.bitdefender.com/site/Live-Assistance.html

  • Hi Niels,

It took me a while to get on the computer but the sheild failed again when I switched profiles so I logged out instead of switching and the shield appeared. I have to say that the shield's failure to load when doing a profile switch doesn't happen every time but it happens enough to have me concerned. I have in the past unistalled using the BD tool and reinstalled but that didn't help. Anything else I can try or is this some bug that hasn't been addressed? Thanks.

    Hello plt5

I will see if I can reproduce the problem. It could be a bug. But sometimes you receive an error message on an account with limited rights but the protection is still active. To see if that is the case open BitDefender on the other accounts with limited rights and see if you see if everything is enabled.
