Update Not Working

Options

Hello!

I reformatted my computer yesterday and reinstalled Bitdefender Internet Security v10 (which I bought a 2-year license for and have about 170 days left).

Unfortunately, not only is it not auto-updating about every hour or so as it used to prior to the reinstall, but it will not update when I try to use the Update Now feature.

I got the MD5 error once, but now get the error message:

Update error:

Could not connect to the update server.

Please check your Internet connection and try again.

I have made sure that "Automatic Update is enabled" is checked.

In settings, I have tried every combination of update servers in the primary and alternate locations settings:

http://update.bitdefender.com

http://upgrade.bitdefender.com

http://upgrade1.bitdefender.com

http://upgrade2.bitdefender.com

My internet connection is working fine for everything else, I can check my email, get onto the Internet, etc.

Any ideas on what I can do to get the Update (auto and Update Now) working?

Thanks!

According to support, there is a problem (since 30.10.08) with their update service, affecting all products. Quite why it is taking SOOOOOOOO long to fix is anybodies guess, but they will start to loose customers very soon....

Yes, Bitdefender will loose customers. I have many complains and they do not know how to answer my many problems with BTS 2008 and BTS 2009? I reminded them many times to reply and they just pretended not to know by giving me WRONG ANSWERS to my simple English questions. Seems like they do not understand English.

  • It is interesting reading all of the other posts on this topic, not only on this thread, but throughout the forum.

I have (now had) Bitfdefender Internet Security v10 installed on my Windows XP desktop and have about 170 days left of my 2-year subscripton. Like I said above, I reformatted, which I do every once in a while, and reinstalled Bitdefender. The update did not work properly from the get-go, and I have since uninstalled and reinstalled it several times to no avail. Sometimes it almost updates and gets more than half the way there, then hangs and gives me various error messages. Other times, it will barely get started with an update before it fails.

Since I felt that my computer was not being fully protected, I have uninstalled it again and now am evaluating Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 which so far is working flawlessly.

It is too bad because not only has Bitdefender left me unprotected--- by not updating, it was allowing my computer to be exposed to whatever threats would have been addressed by the udpates--- but by not fixing the problem has made me have to install another security program and I feel ripped off of the rest of my license period. <img class=" />

I note that no one from Bitdefender is chiming in on this forum to put anyone's mind at ease with a solid explanation and possible solution.

I would be willing to reinstall Bitdefender again if the problem gets solved, there are definitely things I liked about Bitdefender, but for now it looks like Kaspersky is working well. It is doing the job that Bitdefender is supposed to be doing.

  • Update seems to be working fine....

i have bitdefender total security 2009

  • See general thread. I thought it was a gloabl problem. I now find that a re-install sorts my update problem. Try it. If you have the patience for another re-install.....
