Bdis 2009 Blocks Thunderbird With A Pop Up Message

Options

I have just installed BDIS 2009 (registered version) and when I run Thunderbird a box pops up (picture attached) and blocks Thunderbird. When I click on "Don't show this message again", it again pops up after 2 seconds. With the box constantly up Thunderbird cannot be accessed at all. I would be obliged if somebody would help me to solve this problem.

  • Reinstallation of IS 2009 didn't solve the problem. For now, while waiting for a solution, I have disabled antispam bdtoolbar add-on in Thunderbird. It was tricky because I had only 2 seconds before new pop up box would freeze Thunderbird. And IS 2008 didn't have any problems...

    Any suggestions?

  • I've just "upgraded" my wife's computer to IS 2009 from IS 2008 and guess what? Exactly the same box pops up and blocks Thunderbird! Had to disable BD antispam altogether. What are the odds that this problem is related to the wrong setup of my 2 computers versus buggy IS 2009 software?

    Hello Leon108,

Did you already added e-mail addresses or domain names to the spammers or friends list? That is the only thing what I can think about why it keeps appearing again.

    Kind regards,

    Niels

It is impossible to do so, because the pop up message disables all the functions of Thunderbird. A couple of times I managed to quickly click on "settings" on the antispam bar. As long as "settings" box was up, the pop up box stopped appearing. I went through all the settings and the first option was to add my address book emails to friends list which I did. However, the moment I close the "settings" the same annoying message pops up again.

Actually, I found a way to work with Thunderbird while pop up box is up. It is a little bit tricky though. I have to close the pop up and very quickly open any email message. Then the new pop up stays on the window with opened email and I can work with Thunderbird by switching to its window. In this way I was able to completely disable BD antispam add-on in Thunderbird.

BD's antispam in IS 2008 was working perfectly on mine and my wife's computer (actually BD antispam is pretty good). What has changed but "upgrade" to IS 2009?

Thank you Niels for your interest in helping me out. :) Perhaps when I recuperate from recent stress regarding my renewal key, I will write again to the customer support. To be honest, judging them with already cooled down head, I have to admit that BD's customer support was quite quick and helpful. That includea Mrs.Kimberly on LiveAssistance (I waited for connection perhaps a minute) and e-mails from customer support regarding merging 2 licenses into 1 and canceling auto-renewal. Part of the problem was my frustration and an obvious impatience of a "payed customer". :)

  • One more thing I noticed is that in antispam settings under "Add your contacts to friends list" the box with addresses is empty. There are no addresses to select.

  • If it makes you feel any better I have the exact same problem after upgrading from 2008 to 2009. I tried disabling everything in Bitdefender and then turning on game mode and it still pops up when I open Tbird. What is strange is the pop up window opens before Tbird does so I am not sure if it is an incoming email or opening program problem. I can't find where you can unload Bitdefender from the task bar either like you could in 2008. :(

Yes, it does make me feel better. :) Thank you for writing it, balcy24. The more of us, the bigger the chance that BD will look into this and fix it.

As far as I remember from another thread, there is no way to unload IS 2009.

  • I finally gave up and re-installed 2008. Hopefully, they will find the problem soon...

  • Same problem here, using BDIS2009. It appears that the bd Toolbar is the cause of this problem. A quick work around I found until BD fixes it, is to first run Thunderbird in safe mode (from Start->Programs->Mozilla Thunderbird menu.) which runs with add-ons disabled for such situations. This allowed me to go into the Tools->Add-Ons window to disable the BD Toolbar so the next time T-bird runs normally, the toolbar won't load.

Btw, I'm new to using bitdefender and it's becoming more a hassle than an advantage. I'm seriously considering getting a refund.

  • I just contacted technical support and reported the problem.

  • Had the same issue after doing a fresh XP load then loading BDIS2009.

Thanks for the work around - suspected it had something to do with toolbar.

  • Add me to the list of people having the exact same problem. I hope this gets solved ASAP, because I don't consider disabling the toolbar as a permanent solution, much less because I'm paying for the whole product.

  • Bad customer service <img class=" /><img class=" /> : on the Spanish forum the problem has been adverted by October 17 and it has not been resolved yet.

    One month has already elapsed!!!! <img class=" /><img class=" />

    I have decided not to renew my license!!!! <img class=" /><img class=" />

  • After last update of IS 2009, BitDefender Antifishing Toolbar causes Firefox to crash on exit with messages: "firefox has stopped working" and that "Data Execution Prevention had to close Firefox". Disabling this add-on resolves the problem.

First BD's spam add-on for Thunderbird had to be disabled and now Firefox plug-in... Installing IS 2009 over 2008 was definitely a downgrade.
