Bitdefender Internet Protection 2009: Empty Screens [resolved]

Hello,

I'm having a problem with my Bitdefender 2009 installation. When I try to open any screen (not just the main screen), it shows as a complete blank, and I can't do anything with it. What can I do?

Kind regards,

Gerard Floor

  • Make sure you have the latest version of Flash installed on your PC as discussed in this topic.

I've already got the latest version of Flash installed on my PC.. I've had Bitdefender for a while now, and it never gave me an error like this one.

    p.s.

Some extra info: I've tried re-installing bitdefender, and some other suggestions, but they didn't work. Any other ideas?

  • Have you changed anything relative to your video? Installed a new video card or installed a different video driver? Any other hardware/software changes?

-Which BD product do you have installed?

-What is your OS, WinXP I would presume? If so, is SP3 installed? All MS Critical Updates? (I just installed 13 updates :o on my WinXP desktop PC today)

You've already tried a reinstall of BD, so I'm about out of ideas except for upgrading to BD 2011 (free of charge) if your PC meets the minimum system requirements as described in this topic.

    Regards,

Pretty weird.. I haven't installed a new video card or any new hardware/software for that matter.

I've got Bitdefender Internet Security 2009 installed, my OS is WINXP, got SP3 and all critical updates. I tried upgrading to Bitdefender 2011 just now, but I ran into two problems:

    1. The uninstall tool failed to uninstall Bitdefender completely, and I can't find it on my computer anywhere; yet Bitdefender still manages to run somehow, I can still see the icon.

    2. I can't get Bitdefender 2011 to install; Windows gives me an error message.

    Help!

    Regards,

    Gerard

  • If the BD uninstall tool did not run to normal completion, then I'm not surprised BDIS 2011 didn't install correctly.

Three things I forgot to ask you are:

    - what speed & type CPU (processor) is in the PC?

    - how much RAM (memory) is installed?

    - do you have any other security programs installed (Ad-Aware, TuneUp Utilities, any other firewall besides the built-in Windows firewall, anti-malware, anti-spyware, etc.)?

We'll need to work on getting BDIS 2009 successfully uninstalled before anything else. Did you get an actual error message when you ran the uninstaller? Can you post it here? Or did it just not finish (hang)? Did you download the most current uninstaller version - http://www.bitdefender.com/uninstall

    Hi Nikki605,

Sorry, I haven't replied in a while. Turns out I had a nasty rootkit infection, I couldn't even use my keyboard anymore.. and I had to get my PC back to the store to get it fixed.

I installed Bitdefender 2011 now, and everything's working fine.. only I can't get the Realtime Protection to work. I tried the repair function, but it didn't help.. I'm worried that the rootkit might still be infecting my computer somehow, although the guys at the store said everything's all cleaned up now.

And to answer your other questions:

My CPU: Intel Core Duo CPU E7200 @ 2.53 GHz

    RAM: 3.00 GB

I've got no other security programmes installed.

    Regards,

    Gerard

  • Well that was kind of "good news, bad news" wasn't it. ;)

Since you are now running BD 2011 (AV, IS or TS?), if you want help with the Realtime Protection issue, I would ask that you please start a new topic in the BD 2011 Forum.

If you do start a topic over there, please remember to include your basic PC hardware/software information as you did here, since the folks reading the new topic may not have seen the information here in this 2009 topic.

    Thanks,

Hehe, yeah, I guess it was.

I've only got good news this time around though: I managed to fix the problem (unknowingly, of course). I ran a scan with CCleaner, restarted my computer, and it somehow managed to do the trick.

Thanks very much for your help anyway, I appreciate it! And a happy new year to you in advance.

    Kind regards,

    Gerard

  • Glad to hear you got things straightened out. :)

Feel free to post again, anytime.

Since your original problem is resolved, I'll close this topic.

Happy New Year to you, too!!
