Bitdefender 2011 Services Not Responding!

Options

Ok. This has been happening alot with increasing regularity. It is driving me nuts! I have been a loyal BD fan but this problem is making me reconsider. It seems to happen more so when im transfering large files, like movies etc. I have read alot of posts about this problem and came across one that said it was fixed by upgrading to BD 2011. Im thing great! I check the version im running and i get a sharp pain in my groin only to see im allready runnig this fantastic fix!!

I ran the BD tool and it created a file on my desktop. Where do i send it to get help?

Comments

  • Any support team out there that can fix this??

    1. Upload the created file HERE

    2. Send a PM (Private Message) with the download link to DanyDan of tech support. Include a link to this topic and give him as much detail as possible about your PC - exact symptoms, hardware (CPU type/speed, Memory installed, etc.), OS and version, 32-bit or 64-bit, any other security software installed or previously uninstalled. Any other relevant configuration information.

    Regards,

I sent a pm to Danydan with a link to the file but i still have not heard from him! If this is the only way to get help from BD by emails and postings on a forum then there is a serious problem with BD support!

  • Typical response time is 24-48 hours. Please try to exercise a little patience. :)

    Thanks and Regards,

  • Please upload the file as Gary advised you then send me via PM (private message) the download link.

Thank you, looking forward to your answer!

PM sent with download link. Disregard the first file i sent you on the 3rd of Jan, as this new one was made when the Bitdefender services was not responding.

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

The analysis of the log files came with the following results:

    - Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware installed on your PC with its driver for Real Time Protection and the associated service running and installed on your PC (mbamservice.exe)

Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Add/Remove Programs (Programs and Features) then restart the PC.

Correctly reinstall BitDefender as explained below:

    1. Please use our uninstall tool in order to uninstall/delete any previous BitDefender related files:

    http://www.bitdefender.com/uninstall

Access the link and when the window with the BitDefender file appears, please choose the "Save to disk" option. Save the tool on the PC, run it, restart the computer.

    2. You may have to manually delete the following BitDefender folders IF still present in your PC, in Windows Safe Mode:

    C:\Program Files\BitDefender

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BitDefender

    C:\Documents and Settings\<windows_username>\Application Data\BitDefender

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\BitDefender

[How to restart in SAFE MODE With Networking]

    - Restart the computer;

    - Press the "F8" key several times before Microsoft Windows begins to load;

    you need to press "F8" until you will be displayed a text menu;

    - Select "SAFE MODE With Networking" in the text menu and press "Enter"

    - Wait while Windows loads in Safe Mode; this process ends with a confirmation message; click "OK" to acknowledge.

    3. Restart the computer in Normal mode and reinstall the BitDefender product as explained at Step 5.

    4. Next please save (download) then install the file below:

    32bits:

    http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/de...ty_2011_32b.exe

    64bits:

    http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/de...ty_2011_64b.exe

Please let us know if the situation will be fixed after following the above steps.

NOTE: the registered version of Malwarebytes have a Real Time Protection module that is preventing BitDefender from running properly.

    Kind regards,

  • Thanks Danial,

So was it malwarebytes that was causing the problem? Should i reinstall it?

    Thanks.

  • OK.

I followed your post to the letter. Bitdefender is now re-installed. I did not re-install malwarebytes! Lets hope that this fixes the problem.

    Thanks DanyDan.

  • Probably the most important part of DanyDan's response to you is "Real Time Protection." Running multiple security programs with "Real Time Protection" is almost guaranteed to cause problems. Anything from annoying slowdowns to outright system crashes (BSOD) and everything in between.

A good rule-of-thumb is to never run more than one security program with "Real Time Protection" and never to run more than one firewall program.

    Regards,

  • When i kept getting this issue, i was told to go into the "repair" section of the program and let it fix itself via downloading itself and checking its files.

This fix worked for me and im on a 64bit operating system with windows 7.

Although i get the occasional glitch online with the Active Protection Feature.

    Regards,

Totally agree with this statement............but how do you scan a computer with an alternative AV when you can't shut down BD? I sometimes want a second opinion, not just about a particular file but the whole machine.

The key distinction here is "Real Time Protection" vs. an "On Demand" scanner. For example, I have the free version of Malwarebytes installed on this laptop along with BDAV 2011. The difference is that Malwarebytes free version is an "On Demand" scanner ONLY. When you run it, a program called mbam.exe gets loaded into memory and gets unloaded when the scan completes. It causes no conflict with BDAV. It does NOT load the program called mbamservice.exe which is the "Real Time Protection" DanyDan mentioned in his post. That's where the conflict with BD occurs. Mbamservices.exe stays resident in memory, running in the background. The "Real Time Protection" is what you get with the purchased version of Malwarebytes.

I just ran Malwarebytes free version and have experienced no problems with BD. These were my results:

    Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.50.1.1100

The same is true for SUPERAntiSpyware. The free version is an "On Demand" scanner and the purchased version has "Real Time Protection" which will conflict with BD.

    Hope this information helps.

Well that was not the problem! It did it again today. I was transferring movie files to my movie player and BD went into bitdefender services are not responding. I am not running malwarebytes in fact i don't even have it installed.

I managed to make a new file while it was not responding. I will send it to you via pm DanyDan for you to look at.

I PM'ed you with the new file i made.

  • Hmmmmm! no reply yet!

  • Well its done it a few more time since the fresh install of Bitdefender and the removal of malwarebytes. Its done it under various conditions.

Well with 401 days left on my activation the best i could hope for is a refund and i can go buy a product that works! I am very disappointed with this whole thing. It seems to be a problem stemming back to 2009.

What makes me laugh is that it does not do it on my laptop which is running malwarebytes! I have never had any issues with BD on my laptop.

    This is going beyond a joke! <img class=" />

You didn't quite get the point, did you?

BD support insists on un-installing MB, even if it is not running in real time.

I had a similar problem to Irish FX4 a while ago. BD support had me remove MB and BD and sent me a link to the full BD download (mentioned above). The install blue-screened every time (three). Although BD appeared to be installed it behaved in a very erratic way and basically created a mess. That was with MB off the system.

Now to the funny side. Because of this mess I did a complete (-docs) restore from a disc image. That resurrected BD to an older version but also put MB back on the drive. I then did an upgrade of BD to the latest version and everything has been fine since.

BD support (by email) knew that MB is NOT running real time but insisted on the un-install anyway. They also misunderstood AnVir Pro Taskmanager for an AV and wanted that to go as well but I resisted.

It seems to me that all that un-install this, un-install that is just a way by BD support to keep the user busy and hopefully quiet for the time being.

BTW, I'm still waiting for a way to completely (services and all) disable BD on demand. Other AVs have that option why doesn't BD? Tiny things like this would make trouble shooting a breeze.

I don't have Malwarebytes installed. It was removed after following the above post on how to fix my problem. Even with Malwarebytes removed im still having the same problem.

As for this comment you could be right!

  • That's what I said, Malewarebytes installed or not doesn't seem to make the slightest difference.

  • Having the same Bitdefender services failed after about 3 mins of PC use, uploaded files to tech support on 02/11/2010, no reply as of yet. Anyone know if they do refunds or will extend my licence by the number of days this product has failed me?

  • I have uploaded my second file and i have not had a response either. To be honest i don't think they have any idea why it does this! I cant wait to see what the next program or software BD will tell me i have to remove because its conflicting with it! Only time will tell!!

    Hello Dan,

please can you take a look at this file generated by my one of my computers using the supporttool.exe? http://www.sendspace.com/file/lcx95e

. The computer is running windows xp sp3, 1gb Ram, duo core @2.5ghz each, 160gb Hd. The services stop frequently prompting me to restart the pc. I had Mcfee virus scan 8.7i enterprise installed on it before.

I had this annoying problem for quite some time. It seemed to happen randomly, the bitdefender-is 2011 taskbar icon turns grey and reports 'bitdefender services are not responding' and the computer almost crawls to a halt only excecuting one instruction per minute so it seems.

Recently I uninstalled Firefox Sync add-on from my Firefox browser and the problem is gone !

Though seemingly unrelated I wanted to mention it here, so maybe other people can use it to their advantage and maybe bitdefender support can take a look at it...

For those who have no MB and have uninstalled it as well as re-installed BDIS, any updates if the services not responding with grey BD agent icon and slow crawl and lag still exists?

I'm having the same intermittent issues and local distributor for BD is asking me to do the same steps and pin pointing to the on demand free scanner for MB that's the "culprit" too.

I'm more concerned now is because i happen to have like 10-15 family members and friend using BDIS 2011....they are going to bug me again the next time this happens. :(

Btw, I don't have Firefox sync add on, typical IE8 user here.

  • Bumping this up, anybody home?

I experienced the same problems, and I got a msg from BD support team saying that the culprit was SuperantiSpyware and that I had to uinstall it. I did so and my PC worked fine for a couple of days, but then it started again with that annoying bug. B.T.W., I should add that after removing SuperantiSpyware, I made a new uninstallation of BDis and reinstalling it again, which resulted in a temporary respit of 2-3 days.

    .

  • I am a computer tech and our office sells BD antivirus and so many I see this issue. I wish support could fix this issue, I never have any other real time scanners running with BD. One thing I have been working on is at times it is not responding, I can go to microsoft services and restart the failed service and it working fine again or restart the computer. I been trying to fiquire out a way to edit the services to I can change recovery failure for first and second and subsequent failure from take no action to restart the service. I think support should just make these adjustments on the services so when the service fails it would not make the systems possible for compromised. In real life most people dont notice when icons are changed they just use their computer, so when this happens they can at least feel safe and not have to restart their computer every other day.

  • Hello,

The issue with the gray icon should be now resolved with the latest major product update, launched two days ago. Note that the update is, for the time being, only available for those using the software in English. For the other languages, the update will be available later this month.

MZac: please note that when the service fails to reload (usually after a major update being downloaded and installed when it's highly recommended to restart the PC), BitDefender engines will try to restart the service three times so that the user will be protected.

Maras: the SuperAntiSpyware has a real time protection module so, yes, it is highly recommended not to use it while having other major security solution installed such as BitDefender.

I will conduct some tests with Firefox Sync add-on and see if any issues can be noticed - thanks Intrax for the tip :) - and I will post the results as soon as the tests will be completed.

    Regards,

  • So the free on demand malwarebytes without the real time protection was not the problem right???

Well, it's really strange, i'm having this problem for the 1st time on the BDIS 2011 icon, when i hover over it keeps showing:

"Bitdefender services are loading now, please wait"

It only happened today, i have restarted my PC several times but same issue.

Was this something to do with the update?

    Am i actually protected?

  • After the 6th restart, i finally see the icon as protected. I have also posted here:

    http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?sho...mp;#entry105882

    Wrt zero values.

    Thanks. :)

  • Oslove;

This is typical of BD support (What little there is of it)..Remove this or that program..re-install BD etc etc to no avail. Over a month I tried everything I could (With 30 yrs experience with PC's) with not responding problems to PC running at zero speed. BD states that you need 1.5 gig of RAM to run effectively, Win 7 or XP don't need that much.

After over a week of waiting from BD support & wasting my time & money I pulled the pin on BD. Went over to BullGuard IS 2011 & have not had a problem since. (You get 60 day free trial as well). Both on XP & Win 7 machines.

BD don't seem to get it that their product is a minefield of errors & only have the stanard reply send this or that to them.

Why can not they write a short program to get the info from your PC automatically (With your permission of course) saving your time & effort & FRUSTRATION.

I was in the same boat. I worked with a very sluggish BD support group for weeks with no progress and toward the end no response. I don't know how it is acceptable to leave customers hanging like that but I had a computer that was not operation so I uninstalled BD and bought Webroot and all my problems went away.

Of course BD denied my refund request and now there is a fix but guess what; I can't afford to wait around for weeks for a basic problem to be solved. I will now have to figure out another way to get my money back...too bad lemon laws are only for cars.

As I wrote on my reply #30, SuperantiSpyware was indeed UINSTALLED and the problem still occured.

BUT, now for the last 2 days the gray BD icon is not appearing again and the PC is working almost normaly again. It seems that you got rid of the bug. B)
