  • I got it to work by looking under options, then preferences, and setting parental control (current user) to off. It works with my xbox connected and streaming video, no blocked website thus far.

    I use media center on my xbox. When i was connected on the xbox through media center, parental controls would block websites. I went into options and noticed that parental controls was set to on after connecting the xbox. When i turned it off the Parental Controls stopped blocking website.

    As is mine. Mine says off as well. I have never had it on to begin with on my account (it is on for the kids). Anyway............we need a solution!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hi everyone !

    I had exactly the same problem yesterday when I've installed my Xbox 360 as media extender. But I've found a solution (thanks to the post of DanyDan : http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=105863 ).

    First : my configuration is a laptop with Windows 7 (64 bits) and Bitdefender Internet Security (64 bits)

    Now the solution :

    1) Restart PC in Windows Safe Mode (for more explanation see post of DanyDan).

    2) Locate Bitdefender directory (something like C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2011 or C:\Programs\BitDefender\BitDefender 2011)

    3) Locate the file pcontrol.xml (you can do a backup of this file by security if you want) and open it with Notepad (or Notepad++ it's better ;p )

    4) Locate this line :

    <profile user="user_Mcx&AADB&AACNYOURCOMPUTERNAME">

    (YOURCOMPUTERNAME = your computer name :) )

    Anyway if you do not find this line like this, search about user_Mcx. I think it must be ok too...

    5) Under this line you must fine this :

    <pc_status>1</pc_status>

    Change "1" to "0"

    <pc_status>0</pc_status>

    Note : I've also modify "heuristic" (1 -> 0) and "age" (3 -> 18) but I don't think it is necessary (I just dont want to go back in safe mode <img class=" /> )

    6) Save the file and restart in "normal" mode. Normally, It's now working good !

    I hope this solution help you ^_^

    PS : I also hope a correction by Bitdefender about this, because it's wierd that an account, not list in parental control, block websites for an other account...

  • yea... we've already tried that. didnt work. it even says so a couple of posts back

    Hello,

    Pardonmyownage: Would you agree with a remote session in order to troubleshoot the issue together ? Please reply via PM. Thanks.

    Skturner: Yes, I do follow this topic and also working on a fix. At this time I would like to work with one of you in a remote session to troubleshoot the issue together as I do not have a XBOX. Therefore, my question is the same as for Pardonmyownage: would you agree to a remote session ? If yes, please send me a notification via PM. Thanks.

    You modified the "heuristic" (1 -> 0) => that's the Web Filter function - the function that is the culprit here.

    If you do NOT agree with the remote then upload to an online server such as MediaFire or SendSpace the file pcontrol.XML and send me the download link. Important: I will need three pcontrol.XML files:

    - after you start the PC, before connecting the XBOX;

    - when the XBOX is connected;

    - after you disconnect the XBOX (when the issue should occur).

    Tip: you can name the files pcontrol1.XML;pcontrol2.XML and pcontrol3.XML;

    Thank you!

  • I've been having this issue as well, found the tie to the xbox interesting so I did some investigating.

    I actually turned parental control on, allowed access to amazon.ca, and found that I still could not navigate to the page.

    After checking the logs, it showed that amazon.ca was blocked, but not under my username, under the xbox username Mcx1-xxxxx.

    So no matter what you do, it's bitdefender confusing accounts on your PC. As far as I could see, I couldn't add in the xbox username since it's not a 'real' user on the PC.

  • Hello,

    Audiocee: I have created a ticket on your behalf with ID: 201104051008969. Please send me the requested files via email and I will send you a possible resolution as soon as I will have your answer.

    Kind regards,

  • This is the edit of the pcontrol.xml file that worked for me on 64bit windows 7

    I only changed the status to 0, no other changes. I know people have said it doesn't work but this worked on a clean install of windows 7 for me...

    Hi,

    Cailex:

    Muura:

    Thank you for the confirmation, I knew it will work :)

    The workaround must work if the XML file is correctly modified. Since the user created on the Pcontrol.XML file, when the XBOX is connected, is not the same for everyone, I can't provide you with a general fix yet, only the above mentioned workaround until the update will be release, however it should resolve the issue and also NOT interfere in any other way with any of the BitDefender features and options.

    pardonmyownage: haven't received the details for the remote session from you; can you upload here the Pcontrol.XML file AFTER you connect the XBOX so the new user will be listed.

    For those of you that still encounter this issue after modifying the XML file, please upload the file pcontrol.XML located in the BitDefender installation folder HERE then send me a PM with the download link. Please also mention the topic link so it will be easier for me the track it.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Dan, I have saved the copy of the pcontrol.xml file you sent me into my Bitdefender 2011 folder and it seem to work now.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Kram,

    So far I only had positive feedback on this issue and the workaround I proposed. The fix will be released soon via the automatic update module, as soon as the Dev. Team will finish working on it.

    Thanks again for the time you spent helping me understand the issue.

    The fix will be available with the next major product update.

    Any idea when this will be fixed, or when the 'next major product update' will be available? I set-up Media centre earlier and now cant access my work websites...

    This forum link has been going on for nearly 6 months, I can't believe that this hasn't been dealt with yet!! I am absolutely astonished reading through the posts how bad technical and customer support have been.. Can I cancel my account and get a refund?!

  • Hello,

    Techsupportthisaint: I have asked for an ETA from the Dev. Team. Should have it in the next 48 hours. Regarding your refund request, I've escalated it to my colleagues from Sales and one of them will contact you soon with an answer.

    Kind regards,

    I've been having the same problem for quite a while and have been hoping that BitDefender would put out the update you mentioned before, but honestly this has gone on long enough. This is seriously impacting my productivity, and I'm also appalled that such a major bug hasn't been fixed. I would just uninstall BitDefender, but I want to make sure I receive a refund as well. That, or an immediate interim fix would be nice. :)

    Hi Dan,

    I replied to you via message last week expressing the fact that I don't have any external application involved and asking whether to just send you the file in question only once. I haven't heard back from you there so I thought this might be a better way to reach you. Thank you.

  • Hello,

    For those facing this issue, I need to perform one or two remotes to make a final test before releasing the fix.

    Please let me know who is available for a remote during the weekend. Send me your contact details via PM (phone number, ticket ID and convenient time when we can reach you).

    Looking forward to your answer!

  • Just had the same problem - for the first time.

    I went to a site I go to daily and it blocked me. I even added the domain to the Allow section under Web Control... and even rebooted!

    It finally allowed me in after I turned OFF, then back ON Web Control (no reboot needed)

    this is definitely an annoying bug

    Daniel, do you have a fix? If yes, when will it release?

  • No Itek, don't have the permanent fix yet as I am still waiting for the others to answer to my request. None of the people posting in here haven't replied yet accepting or denying the remote session. As soon as the fix will be release, I will make a post with the details.

    I am having the same issue. I could resolve it through the pcontrol.xml file as per instructed, but if you would like a remote session to establish a permanent fix, I will be available. I will pm you my information, but I do not have a ticket number.

  • danydan I also have the same problem... I was just wondering when the fix will be issued as it has caused me some grief :(

  • Hello,

    Gillian: Your ticket ID is: 201107131007191. Can we schedule a remote session to troubleshoot the issue on the spot ?

    Lukitg: Please send me any proof that will show that you and Gillian are not one and the same user as the IP you used to post on the forum is identical.

    As per our Forum Rules (you can find a link in my signature) it is allowed ONE username for each user asking for assistance. I will not ban neither of you for the time being, at least not until I hear back from you so please send me a PM with the requested info.

    Regards,

  • Guess im done with bitdefender since i cant access sites and im not getting any help. Idk how this could be a problem for so long its way beyond ridiculous.

    This worked for me. I had edited the xml file noted in this thread as well, but what I noticed is that although I had Parental Control turned off in the program user interface, I actually had to leave it on and turn off Parental Control from the Preferences screen. Just another quirk of BD.

  • Hello guys :)

    Thank you for your feedback.

    Did you know that you can upgrade for free to Bitdefender 2012?
