The Bdrsdrv Service Failed
Hi,
I've noticed in the Event Viewer under Windows XP Pro that I get the following error message relating to service failure this appears to relate to Bitdefender from my searches on Google. I cannot find a way to resolve the issue though. I installed Bitdefender yesterday. Any ideas?
The error is as follows:
The BDRsDrv service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified.
This happens twice in a row several about four times a day.
Many thanks,
Lee.

Hello leemar1978
Take a look at this folder X:\Program Files\Softwin\BitDefender10 You must find a file called bdrsdrv.sys.
Put in your installation disc choose modify/repair.

How is this done with an internet install?
I started getting the same error after uninstalling the freeversion #8 and installing #10..........there is no such file anywhere on my computer...but Bitdefender runs fine!0 -
Double click the installation file you've downloaded, then when you're asked, choose Repair.

Thx but that didn't work!
Still getting event error 7000!0 -
Have you removed BitDefender 8 by using just the add/remove from control panel? If that is the case please remove your new installation with the removal tool, reboot your PC and try to reinstall the product.

Hello all, I'm new to BD and the forum.
I am also getting two Event ID: 7000 error messages in Event Viewer, one for BDRsDrv service failed and one for BDFsDrv service failed. I have tried two repair installations, one from Control Panel> Add or Remove, and one from the downloaded program file. Neither corrected the errors. The bdrsdrv.sys, and I'm assuming bdfsdrv.sys files are not in the BitDefender folder.
System info: HP, XP Home SP2 up to date, 1.0GB, 2.0GH, Comodo Firewall Pro, Avast AV, BOClean, Spyware Terminator (all real-time), BitDefender 10 free.
If I should start my own thread, I apologize in advance to leemar and the moderator.0 -
to all of you i reccomend only having bit defender on no other security software at all they all seem to conflict, especially since bit defender got into the spyware market.
use the uninstall tool i find that you need to run it twice and re boot to be sure of a full uninstall then re install the trial version and put your code in, i had lots of crashes but since i took all other security off its been ok0 -
Thanks webbit, but I only have the free version, and it doesn't have any anti-spyware, firewall or real-time protection. It's only a demand a/v scanner.
BD seems to be working fine. I'm just trying to identify why I don't have the specified files, and why Windows thinks I should.0 -
Guys, the BitDefender 2008 installer clearly reads that you must uninstall all other antivirus programs before you install BitDefender. This is a general rule applying to all antivirus programs, not only BitDefender. And it has nothing to do with the fact that BitDefender detects spyware, it's because of the system hooks that the antivirus program creates, which allow it to control the access to the file system. If two programs try to do that in the same time, it inevitably leads to system instability, errors, crashes, and even data loss.

Thanks for the info, bluesprite.
Here's what I have done today:
I DL (but did not install) a fresh copy of BitDefender 10 free to rule out a bad download.
I uninstalled Avast and BitDefender in Add or Remove. Rebooted.
I ran both uninstaller programs. Rebooted.
I cleaned the registry and searched for leftover files/ folders (only found a couple pre-fetch files). Rebooted.
I began to install BitDefender and got a message that Ad-Aware SE should be uninstalled before proceeding. I uninstalled Ad-Aware, cleaned up, rebooted and installed BitDefender. The error messages in Event Viewer returned. Again, the files needed to run the BDRsDrv and BDFsDrv services are not in the BitDefender folder. This is very odd as BitDefender updates and scans normally. Does anyone know what these two services are for? That might shed some light on the cause of the problem.0 -
I'm getting the same error, "The BDRsDrv service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified. " Uninstall and Repair does not solve the problem. Any other ideas?0 -
I also have the free BD ver. 10 oem that I downloaded from the bitdefender site. I have done all that has been recommended with NO success. I still get the two error messages in event viewer. I am running win 2k sp4.

Go to start, run, type devmgmt.msc press enter. Go to display (view),select show hidden devices, now you will see that entry is visible which is called non plug and play compatible drivers expand it by pressing on the +.
