[resolved]Multiple Issues With Bitdefender 2012 Internet Security

I have had multiple issues with Bitdefender 2012, is anyone else experiencing the following and are there any solutions. My environment is Win 7 Home Prem. Service Pack 1 64 bit

- Auto Scan (antivirus) and Auto Update settings automatically reset to off (after being set to ON) when I restart the machine

- iTunes hangs when I plugin my iPhone, or,

- sometimes the moment I start iTunes I get "bdagent has stopped working" window (iPhone OS 4.3.5, iTunes - 10.4.1.10)

Some general comments for the Bitdefender team.

- The interface went from (2011) a professional look and feel to a "teen" video game interface (definitely not progress and in language that seems more appropriate "not cool at all"!!)

- Under firewall "Reset All" rules option has been removed (why?)

- Firewall no longer shows the "System Rules" (why?)

- What is AutoPilot and why can't I switch it "ON"? It immediately goes back to off position. Why?

Any help that anyone can provide is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Bik

I have had the same problems with the settings changing - Auto Scan, PutoPilot, Firewall have all needed to be turned on again today after booting up. My system is the same as Bik's - is it something to do with Windows 7?

I, too, would appreciate some help.

    Thank you

I will reply to some of your questions:

    - Auto Scan (antivirus) and Auto Update settings automatically reset to off (after being set to ON) when I restart the machine

One possible reason is if this system is a laptop. If laptop mode is enabled in BD and the laptop is running on battery, these 2 settings will automatically turn OFF as discused HERE. There is also an issue with Paranoid Mode as discussed HERE (item 3).

    - iTunes hangs when I plugin my iPhone, or,

    - sometimes the moment I start iTunes I get "bdagent has stopped working" window (iPhone OS 4.3.5, iTunes - 10.4.1.10)

Several issues with iTunes have been reported and are currently being investigated. See this topic and this topic.

    - What is AutoPilot and why can't I switch it "ON"? It immediately goes back to off position. Why?

Do you have Paranoid Mode switched ON? If yes, then Auto Pilot is disabled by design. Again, explained in this topic (item 4).

    Regards,

  • Thank you nikki605, that explains it. I've now switched off LaapTop mode and will see what happens.

You can do that, but on my laptop, I leave Laptop mode ON. Right now, I am running it on battery and both Auto Scan and Auto Update have switched OFF. That is by design. BD is helping to reduce battery drain by not running those 2 functions while operating on battery. As soon as I plug the laptop back into ac power, those 2 options will turn back ON.

    Regards,

  • Thank you nikki605. Your responses were very relevant. I have made some changes to my settings and will check the results. Really appreciate your help. Bik

  • You're welcome. One other item of note, with Laptop Mode ON, entries will be made in the Events log showing Autoscan settings changed each time the laptop is disconnected/re-connected to ac power, switching Auto Scan OFF/ON. This behavior is normal.

    Regards,

  • Which makes sense. Thanks again. Bik

    Hi Bik,

Should we consider this case resolved and close the topic ?

    Regards,

  • Yes, please close the case.

I have reinstalled 2011, Bitdefender 2012 is too unstable. After the recent updates it had started giving "bdagent stopped error ..." every 5-10 minutes.

I still think that 2012 interface is major step back. It is very "juvenile" and "video gamy". A lot of flexibility has been taken away.

I will post some observations in the future specifically regarding the interface. I must say that I am disappointed in the new interface and what seems to be an attempt to try to automate everything but some critical analysis abilities have been taken away.

    Thanks,

    Bik
