Upgrade From 2011 To 2012 - Website Incorrect

Hi,

I have Internet security 2011 and I went to your website and it clearly says I can upgrade for free to 2012. It also clearly says "If the older version was registered, BitDefender 2012 will "remember" the respective license key.". I downloaded 2012 and it uninstalled 2011 and on restart began the install. The first question it asked was for my licence key. So therefore it did not "remember" my licence key. Why is the website lying?

Cheers

David

    Hello David,

The website is not lying. If you used the uninstall tool to remove BitDefender then the registration details will also be removed. If you install 2012 over the old version then the registration details will be listed. Allow me to quote:

If you are using BitDefender 2009, 2010 or 2011 you can upgrade, free of charge, to the 2012 version by:

    1. Installing it directly over the older version with the installer provided. During the installation process you will receive a notification informing you that a previous version was detected. Click Yes to uninstall it, reboot the computer, then proceed the installation.

If the older version was registered, BitDefender 2012 will "remember" the respective license key.

    2. Removing the older version, restarting your computer and installing the new version. The product settings of your previous version will not be saved. Please use this upgrade method only if the first option fails.

    Hi,

I followed step #1. I installed directly over the older version with the installer provided. The older version was registered so therefore according to #1 - "BitDefender 2012 will "remember" the respective license key." but in my case it didnt. When I entered my previous key it was fine. So its obviously not true for everyone for whatever reason....

  • Thanks for your feedback, it was sent to the respectful department.
