Problems With Wireless Network

<img class=" /> After installing bitdefender 10 on my Dell Inspiron LapTop I can no longer use the printer on my home network. I have done just about every suggestion I can find via a google search / windows support. The only thing I was able to get back was the ability to see all of the computers on my network (directory / network places) but I still can print or click on any of the wired computers on the network without getting an access denied message. I can however click on any of the 3 wireless computers and get to the shared folders on them (go figure).

I contacted support and e-mailed them all of the information they requested but that was over a week ago and haven’t heard anything. <img class=" />

All but the Dell laptop can use the network printer and I have since uninstalled this program and other than re-installing XP I am totally baffled.

If I plug it into the network via network card it works fine and I can access the printer and all of the shared folders on the entire network.

What ever Bitdefender does when it’s installed creates the problem with the wireless network on the Dell computer. It’s this computer not any of the others so please don’t suggest firewall, permissions or anything to do with any of the other computers on the network because they all work fine. What ever the problem is it’s on the computer where bitdefender was installed. There has to be something within the program that turns something off or alters a registry or security file.

If anyone has any ideas it would be appreciated since support doesn’t seem to have a clue.

Thanks

  • Can you upgrade to 2008 and see if it works then?

I'm not going to upgrade until I get the problem fix. I still can't use my wireless network printer and can't find anyone who knows why? There is something within the program that altered a file or something that prevents the wireless from working on a network. I uninstalled it and tried everything I could find but no luck.

I have 2 other wireless computers that still work fine unfortinutly they aren't the one I use for my work and having to hook up a wire to print everytime I need to print is a real pain in the ######.

The support people haven't answered my e-mails so I assume they have no clue.

    This is very frustrating. <img class=" /><img class=" /><img class=" /><img class=" />

  • Hi den7611,

First of all, please calm down.

Second of all, why won't you try upgrading to BD2008? Updating is free (you can use the same license). The reason why Ivo suggested you to upgrade is because BD 2008 might already have this issue fixed. I just installed it a few minutes ago on my Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop and it works fine until now. I didn't try to use a network printer, because I don't have any available in my network, but I noticed that BD 2008 has an option about Wireless Networks (which, who knows? maybe it will help you).

So: the first thing you have to try is to upgrade to the latest version. Then, if you still have this problem, post again and we'll see if we can find another solution.

  • I tried restoring the system back before the problem occured and I'm still unable to access any wired system or printer.

I can see all of the computers on the network and can access any of the wireless computers shared folders and all but one wireless can access the printer.

I tried just about every suggestion I have found online using the DOS command. winsock etc and still no luck.

I have compared all of the services, permissions and security settings running on another wireless laptop and they are all the same.

Something had to have changed in the registry but I have no idea where to start to look.

BTD appeared to have disabled the windows firewall and I had to restore that and it looks like that is now working properly including allowing the wireless network. BTD was turning off the computer browser service and that is working now after uninstalling BTD.

Again up until installing BTD I had no problems with accessing the other wired computers and the printer and since I restored my system back to a month prior to BTD and I'm still having the problem.

I am lost because I would have thought all of the settings including the registery would have been restored to that date. I don't know if there is still a file left on my system from BTD that is continuing to alter something. I did notice there are some files still in my DOC directory from BTD and I used the uninstall from the website which I would have thought would have taken all of the files off but apparently not.

I don't think I would be as ###### if support at least made an effort to help but they don't even reply to e-mails.

I have attached 2 log files from BTD that might shed some light on this.

At this point I'm out of idea's so any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

I am going tp try 2008 as a last resort but I would like to fix this so I know what the problem is so I can fix it right away if it occurs after installing 2008 and avoid all of this.

  • WOW!!!!!

    It works.

I went back on the net to keep looking for possible fixes and found someone who suggested reflashing the router.

    It worked.

Thanks for your help Cris and not sure if I'm going to try 2008 yet but will consider it.
