Support Windows Xp X64 Sp2

I just tried installing the unimpressive BitDefender 2012 on my XP x64 SP2 machines. To my surprise, BitDefender has dropped support for XP x64. Thank you. Guess I'll use BitDefender 2011 until my XP no longer functions the way I wish it to function. I have two partitions, one with Windows XP x64 and Windows 7.... prefer XP x64. BitDefender was one of the only security suite providers that supported XP x64, and now they're gone.

Too bad. Would be nice if you brought support back to XP x64 64-bit SP2, but I doubt it will happen.

  • Hello Eric,

I am sorry to see that you are not happy with our decision however please keep in mind that, as Windows XP is considered an old operating system, including Microsoft have dropped the Support for the Windows XP Service Pack 2 x86. I know you will say that it's not related however it is. You should consider the fact that the new software are using new technologies, which most of them are not compatible with older operating systems.

I have had a discussion with my manager on this subject after few users complaining about it however the decision stands.

On a personal note, I would go with Windows 7 in a blink of an eye, on x64 or x86 but everyone is entitled to their own choices.

    Hi

    Sorry for the delayed reply.

You have all the details about Windows XP x64 here:

Bitdefender 2012 will not support XP x64 (with or without SP2).

    Thank you.

That's too bad. XP Service Pack 2 x86 does not apply to x64. The extended support date for x64 is 4/8/2014. Wish BitDefender would continue to support it, as I cannot use it on any of my XP x64 machines anymore and have switched to ESET on those machines. Shame.

    Hello Eric

You can contact Microsoft Support and they should guide you how to legally switch to XP x86 SP3 or another version of Windows(Vista or 7).

Thank you in advance for understanding.

I guess you should Upgrade to Service Pack 3..!!!

  • Hi Neo

Service Pack 3 is only available for the 32 bit architecture of Windows XP. XP x64 has only SP2.

    Thank you.
