Unable To Load Bayes File.

Using Outlook Expres with IE6 and Windows XP I am trying to load a previous BAYES file by clicking on SETTINGS from the Outlook Express BitDefender menu. It does pop up with a small window but displays SAVE BAYES instead of LOAD BAYES?? LOAD does display LOAD BAYES correctly. How can I correct this problem?

On a separate note: Not one SPAM email is being filtered not matter what I do. I have used all tips in this forum, so please don't give me one that has been posted here previous to this email. Very useless SPAM module if nothing gets filtered. Yes, I have uninstalled with the "tool" and reinstalled. Any thought?

  • Hello nerdnik

Click on the settings button of the BitDefender antispam toolbar and press wipe antispam database.

You have first to select spam mails and press on this is spam. It is a learning filter if you don't mark mails as spam the filter will not work properly. You have also to add spammers or entire domain names by pressing on the spammers icon select domain name and type *@spam.la so every mail that is coming from the domain spam.la will be marked as spam. Double click on the red BitDefender icon and click on the settings button that you will find on the bottom left corner of the BitDefender Security Center press on antispam and set the slider on moderate to aggressive. Don't forget to press on apply.

  • Thanks for your reply. I have already wiped my database. I now CANNOT "LOAD BAYES", because it displays "SAVE BAYES" instead?!

Also, you would think a simple word like "V*agra" would be caught by the SPAM filter, but NO, it can't prevent ANY SPAM from coming in. I have it set to delete, but not mark as read so I can see these in my Deleted Mailbox, but NONE are ever there.

    No canned replies please.

    Thanks.

  • Hello nerdnik

That is normal because you have deleted the previous one so you have to save it.

You don't get the point of the spam protection BitDefender moves them to a folder which is spam by default. If you don't want them into your inbox you have to enable that option by your isp. Or you have to use a tool such as eremover or eprompt where you can delete mails before they are downloaded from your mail server.

    It's only a filter.

  • I understand your point regarding that I need to save BAYES first, then I can load. BUT, I've always had a BAYES file that I have kept (so I would have it after the uninstall/reinstall). Clicking on Settings, then Load only gives me the option to Save, not Load.

Anyhow, with a few days of emails, not ONE email has been marked as SPAM and nothing is being filtered. This actually stopped months ago. After using online help and sending them files, they were unable to resolve my problem. Everything else in Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 10 works just fine, but no SPAM emails are filtered, ever. I have my settings set to Aggressive. You would think something would not get through and I am constantly Adding Spammers with the button on my Outlook Express Bitdefender toolbar. And yes I have tried the Domain only option with the *@spam.la option.

I know it's a "learning" filter, but it seems pretty "dumb" to me when I can see text in spam emails that clearly should have marked them as SPAM.

    Anyone else experiencing this?

    Thanks for any help.

  • Hello nerdnik

I recommend that you enable these filters also open BitDefender go to antispam custom, check block asian, block Cyrillic, check everything under advanced spam filters press on apply. If you do that together with marking mails that aren't being labelled as spam after a while BitDefender will filter almost every spam mail. The spam mails that got trough here is very small.

  • Niels,

I have done everything as you suggested. After 3 days, still not filtering of any SPAM emails, NONE <img class=" /> . You stated "after a while" they would be filtered. So how long is "after a while" ? ?

Something is not working correctly. I have uninstalled with the uninstall tool/reinstalled. Marked incoming emails as SPAM, when appropriate, setup the options you stated and still not that first email is filtered as SPAM.

    Any more suggestions?

  • Hello nerdnik

Normally directly after you marked some mails as spam and add domain names and enabled all these filters.

Press on the settings button is moving to deleted folders checked?

Did you made rules in outlook express? If so delete them.

    Best regards

    Niels

  • Niels,

I deleted the 2 rules that I had in Outlook Express. I also had added a domain to the Bitdefender Outlook Express settings for Spammers - *@compuserve.com. I did click Apply and waited for two days and someone sent me an email from this domain again and it was NOT filtered !!

    Your thoughts.

  • Hello nerdnik

I am only a volunteer and I don't work for Softwin. I tested it and the mail was marked as spam after I entered the domain. But it wasn't moved to the correct folder which should be by default deleted items. I will report this issue. Which version of BitDefender are you using?

    Niels

  • I am using Bitdefender AntiVirus Plus Version 10.

What folder were your filtered emails going to in your testing?

    Thanks for your help.

  • Hello nerdnik

Sorry for the delay. The mails should be moved to a folder called spam. What default folder is selected when you press on the settings button on the antispam toolbar?

I tested it for BitDefender Internet Security 2008 normally they should be moved to deleted items. But in my case that couldn't be because that folder doesn't exist. I am only a volunteer so I don't work for Softwin (BitDefender).
