Can't Update Virus Definitions

When ever I click on update. It does nothing. It doesn't even check for updates. Everything else seems to work. I can run a scan. I just can't update. The last update says "Never."

  • Hi BrianMarotta,

What version of BitDefender are you using?

    Cris.

  • We have version V10

  • Hello BrianMarotta

Can you please check the status of the BitDefender update service? By doing this go to start, run, type services.msc press enter the BitDefender Desktop Update service should be started (running). What specific version are you using? I mean Antivirus,Antivirus Plus or Internet Security. If you are using a separate firewall you have to allow livesrv.exe access to the internet. Try to download and install the updates manually from here. When you have installed them try to update again.

    Best regards

  • Antivirus V10. I tried the manual updates. This did not work. I tried services.msc No luck there. it was however, running in services.

  • Hello BrianMarotta

    What firewall are you using?

Try this rightclick on the red BitDefender icon near the system clock click on exit. Put in your installation cd-rom or double click on the installer choose modify/repair and follow the steps.

  • The problem is that I don't have the cd. I downloaded it online. Do I need to upgrade to 2008. I still have 522 days left on this version.

  • Hello BrianMarotta

You have to double click on the installer that you have downloaded. Yes, you can upgrade for free to BitDefender Antivirus 2008. But you need first to run BitDefender Uninstaller. You have to enter the license key that you used for antivirus 10 during the installation. But if the problem still persists then it must be a firewall issue.

  • Same problem: within the app can't run update. Went to website to initiate manual update - okay 13.5 mb on dialup (again...note previous install issues) when (pop-up) then had the gall to advise me that a newer version of this crap program existed (please follow the cheesy grins and begin new download) and promptly exited.

But hey guys - I downloaded this freaking [new] version 2 days ago when I was foolish enough to pay for the privelage of owning what is supposed to be a new version.

At this stage I can only say that this is the cruddiest and least supported of the "top 10" IS programs available.

I would dearly like a refund and would be extremely happy to remove the rubbish from my computer.

Perhaps one of the gurus would be polite enough to respond re: 'I give up and never want to see this app again'.

In Australia, when a program fails a dismally as this one to satisfy a customer, a refund is virtually automatic. I hope you guys follow the propmt.

    Yeah

ralgie, sounds like your ancient connection was the only problem. Perhaps you should be asking your ISP for the refund instead.

Back on topic, have you considered setting up a proxy server?
