Upgrade From Bdis V10 To Bdis 2008
Hi,
I purchased BDIS v10 for my Vista32 desktop in April. I see there is a new version 2008 now.
Is this upgrade free since I purchased it 6 months ago? How do I go about upgrading? Thanks.

Hello Fallstar,
Upgrading is free as long as your license is valid. Since you bought BD 6 months ago, then yes, you acn make a free upgrade to BD2008.
How to upgrade:- Download an installation kit for BitDefender IS 2008 (Trial)
- Download the BD Uninstall Tool. Run this tool to completely remove BDv10 from your system, before installing BD2008.
- Reboot your system
- Install BD IS 2008 and register it with the same key you used for v10
- Reboot your system
- Make a full update of BitDefender
- Another reboot is recommended after the first update.

Well, I have followed your directions, exactly, and am having major problems. I uninstalled v.10 completely, rebooted, installed 32-bit installer. I rebooted again, and the registration wizard came up, so I input the key number (that I got with v.10) and it told me that it was good for 2 years...no problem. Next window (2 of 5?) asked for my account login, which I entered, then it hung up there and never recovered. It also hung up my entire Windows, could not even get to my Task Manager. I managed to reboot a couple more times, each time the registration wizard pops up and asks for the same thing, and hangs up at the same place. I eventually got the definitions updated and a quick scan done, but the UI says that I am running a trial version. It seems to have problems at boot up time, and if I wait patiently, and exit the registration wizard, I can see the program icon in my system tray running. Also, it is telling me I have "3 issues that affect the security of my system" and one critical warning for the Identity Control. I clicked the fix button, but I have no idea what to put in there.
How do I clear that Identity Control warning, and fix the other problems...and how do I get it to accept my key number and get rid of the Trial status?? Or should I use system restore and go back to version 10? Help!0 -
Hello Fallstar,
Do you have another Firewall solution installed? Maybe BD fails to contact the server and then hangs (it shouldn't hang, but it does). If you have another firewall, please uninstall it (BD has it's own Firewall module, as I believe you already know).
If you don't have a firewall...I don't know what the problem might be. But to solve it, when the Registration Wizard appears, on the second step, select the 3rd choice (Create an account later). It should go smoothly
About the Identity Control problem... there seems to be a problem with that module and it can't be enabled. I've reported this to TechSupport. More details here: http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=2447
About the other problems... I think Identity Control has two problems (1: it's not enabled; 2:it doesn't have any rules). About the third problem, only you can tell me what it is. If you want not be warned about something (a module being disabled), just un-check the box in front of it (in the column named Monitoring).

Hi again,
I'm still having problems with 2008, and I would like to uninstall it, and reinstall v10. Can I use the same uninstall tool that you linked to (above)?0 -
Hello Fallstar,
Yes, that tool works for both BDv10 and BDv11 (probably also for BDv9, but I'm not sure about this).
