Search Advisor Not Working In Bing/yahoo

I am running BD Antivirus Plus 2012 on Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit, SP1.

Browser is IE9 32-bit. Windows update active so everything fully patched.

When I search using Bing, either from bing.com or direct from the IE9 address bar, Search Advisor is failing to validate the search results.

Next to each search result is a spinning wheel icon and mouse-over shows a pop-up saying 'Bitdefender 2012. This page is being scanned'

That reamins the same for minutes, even hours. The link scans never complete.

I get exactly the same results using the Yahoo search engine.

Strangely, google works as expected, in that with Scan SSL OFF, it does not even try to scan and puts no icon next to search results but with Scan SSL ON, the search results appear almost instantaneously with the BD security assessment next to each entry.

I have everything switched on in Settings. I do run Ad Muncher, but have disabled it and that makes no difference to Search Advisor behavious.

Obviously I would like Search Advisor to work as expected, but can I also ask, if I click on an unchecked link and it does lead to a poisoned web page, will BD still intervene with some interstatial page to protect me?

TIA

    Hi Mark :)

    In order to be able to properly identify the causes for the reported situation and find a solution we will need to investigate a bit deeper.

    Please follow the steps below and send us the result:

    a ) Go to this page

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb963902.aspx and download the autoruns file.

    b ) Extract the contents of the downloaded file and run the 'autoruns.exe' file;

    c ) Wait for the list to be filled with all the processes and then make sure that you have the Everything tab selected in the upper part;

    d ) Click on the Disk icon right under File and chose any location folder on your computer;

    e ) Save the file with a specific name (your name, computer name, a random name, which one you want) and then send me a PM with it.

    If the file is too big to attach it, upload it on

    http://www.sendspace.com

    or

    http://www.mediafire.com

    and send me a PM with the download link.

    We will analyze the information you sent and then reply with a possible solution in the shortest time.

    Have a nice day.

  • autoruns file sent.

    On the positive side, I have discovered that even though the search results scan is not working, BD is still protecting against poisoned web pages (I clicked on an unchecked search result and got an interstatial BD block.

    Given that behavious, perhaps it isn't really necessary to preemtively check search results.

    Hello :)

    For the current situation, let's try something else.

    Please follow the steps from below:

    1. Use our uninstall tool in order to uninstall/delete any previous BitDefender related files:

    http://www.bitdefender.com/uninstall

    Access the link and when the window with the BitDefender file appears, please choose the "Save to disk" option. Save the tool on the PC, run it(right click and select "Run as administrator" - for Windows Vista/7) and restart the computer when prompted.

    2. Download and install the software and then run it to clean your computer's registry and temporary files:

    http://download.piriform.com/ccsetup318.exe

    http://www.piriform.com/docs/ccleaner/usin...gistry-cleaning

    Once the cleaning is complete it's recommended to restart your computer.

    If you have a registry cleaner already installed, you can use that one.

    3. Install BitDefender using the latest installation kit available for download. Please note that you need to download (save) the installation kit prior to running it.

    The BitDefender Antivirus Plus 2012 installation kit can be downloaded from here:

    http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/in...r_antivirus.exe

    The installer should automatically retrieve your license key so you will not need to enter it again during the setup.

    For more information on the registration process please read:

    Should you need further information, please do not hesitate to reply to this message.

    Have a nice day.

  • Hi Christain,

    I followed your instructions to the letter. The installer didn't manage to automatically retrieve my license key but everything else went smoothly and the problem is now solved.

    Case closed. Many thanks.
